AETNA Nightmare!!!
So, I found out today that my insurance (Aetna) at my new job won't
cover future fills and doesn't cover any WLS.
My insurance doesn't start until November and I'm on COBRA right now.
This is what they said: "If there is a medical justification as a
result of a complication(ie wound tear) then services to treat the
complication would be covered, but if this is a routine maintenance
(ie tightening of the band) for continued weight loss, then it would
likely be excluded as it is a treatment for morbid obesity.
The plan excludes bariatric surgery (even if it medically necessary)
as it is an exclusion on the plan."
What's the point of having a Lap-Band if you don't get the fills?
Someone tell me more about Fill Centers USA...! I'm in Los Angeles...
I may have to go that route after I stop COBRA because I can't afford
to do COBRA for an extended period of time.
This is so freakin' frustrating! They switched to Aetna between me
accepting the position and me actually starting the job. I had
checked the previous insurance carrier they had (which was Blue Cross)
and I was good to go. DAMN DAMN DAMN!

Exclusions come from the employer. Aetna covers WLS and fills if the employer is willing to pay for it. Either your new employer decided to stop covering WLS when they switched to Aetna or they never covered it and BCBS told you the wrong info.
My company has several policies and one of them told me WLS was covered when it wasn't. I was going to switch during Open Enrollment until I found out that my company excludes it on all their policies. I was so mad because I wasted 3 months waiting for Open Enrollment for nothing!
Anyway, it's not Aetna, it's your company. (And mine.
