Pre-Op diet

I have noticed that alot of different pre-op diets. I am wondering why each doctor has their own diet. I am doing the 4 oz fruit, 4 oz cooked protein, 4 oz veggie, and a protein shake, each day. I cant help but be jealous of everyone who gets their "last meal". Does it really matter that I am on this 12 oz diet? Would it really hurt if I got to eat "normal"?

Sorry, maybe I am just grumpy from lack of food! lol

Yeah, its the entire day.

Breakfast: 4 oz of fruit, 8 oz of skim milk with a scoop of powder protein

Lunch: Protein shake

Dinner 4 oz of cooked protein, 4 oz of veggies

Plus the 2 quarts of water every day.

And this is to be done 2 weeks prior to surgery.
I guess I cant complain TOO much, I have lost 8.5 pounds in 4 days.

Lack of food is definatley a good reason to be grumpy!!!  Different surgeons have different protocols!

I know a main reason for wanting their patients to lose weight before surgery is to make teh surgery safer.  To shrink yoru organs to make for an easier surgery.

He could also just want you to get use to a new way of eating.. so after surgery you aren't forced into it cold turkey!  So you have an idea of what you are actually getting into and get use to this type of diet!

As hard as it may be for you, I'm sure your surgeon had a really good reason!!!!  But I can totally understand your pain!!!!

Good luck!!!!!!!!

Thank you Renee.

I am totally ok with the small amounts of food I will be eating after surgery. Its just at this point, with the small amount of food, I have constant hunger pains.

Only 9 days left! lol

Nicole, The reason for the pre op diet is to get some of the fat away from your liver. I just went through it (RNY 8/19/08) so I know were you are coming from but my advise is "just do it". Dr Coates has a reason for this and it will make your surgery go easier.
Hang in there girl you can do it!!
