All the fire this year seemed to have settled right here. Some worse than others. But ut really messes with my Mom she is getting up there in years and  the smoke just wipes her out. It just burns my throat, eyes, nose and make everything stink. And my chicken all most stop laying!! :-) We live on a acre and half...wish I still had the horse but we have 4 dogs, 1 cat and 6 chickens...and my garden. I've got tomatores running out my ears, I will be cannig Wednesday for sure.
Do you mind me asking what area of High Desert you live. I was in the desert for about5 years.

I do not live in the high desert...I live in the LOW desert....the Palm Springs area....it is hot and ucky here right now as the monsoon is blowing in once again. We got our wash opened yesterday late afternoon and I am sure it will be closed by weeks end again...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I am a native San Franciscan. When my boys were growing up, I took them to Camp Mather...wow did we have a lot of fun there! I always remember the enormous bullfrogs they would catch!

I hear you about the smoke...hope your mom is doing okay.....when we had all those horrible fires here more than a year ago now...wow I though my throat and eyes had had it. It was so bad that it made sores in my nose.

Janine, I work for 2 season 1/2 of a mile from Camp Mather, at Evergreen Lodge as a manager. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it there. Matter of fact last night a good friend that I worked with up there and in Death Valley came by last night (hadn't seen her in 2 years). It was a really nice visit.
As for the Low Desert, I know the HOT, HOT, HOT I lived in Crystal, NV and the first summer there I knew I would die for sure. We had 10 days of 124 degree in a row. But never the less I still miss how beautiful it can be there.

Have a great day!!

OMG Evergreen Lodge....I have not been there since they sold it and did a huge remodel from what I understand from my friends. I have a lot of good memories of partying there in the bar and so forth. I have not been there for about 6 years now....I am overdue for a trip. Typically I ride my motorcycle up there from the desert and stay in LeeVinning now at the Tioga Lodge. I am going to have to come through there this next year because I plan on going to Hot August Nights in Reno next year.

Send me a link if you have one to the lodge now!

I knew there was some kind of connection between us...so many common interests. I cracks me up. www.evergreenlodge.com
They have add 50 new cabins. They really yuppified the place. But, I always knew that would happen once John sold the place. I loved working there. I would start Apri 1st - October 15 or so.
I would have the place pretty much to myself for the whole month of April...Now that is what I call a vacation!! ha-ha and they paid me for it!!!!
I haven't been to HOT AUGUST NIGHTS in forever!!!
Check out the web site...the only thing they haven't change is the great bar.
