San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies on Monday warned residents to be on the lookout for an e-mail extortion scam.

 

Diane Crawford said that on July 7, she received an extortion e-mail that said "someone you call a friend wants you dead."

 

The sender of the e-mail claimed he had been hired to kill her. But if Crawford wired a certain amount of money to him, he would not carry out the assassination.

 

Crawford contacted the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

 

Detective Matthew Peterson worked with Interpol, the world's largest international police organization, to obtain search warrants for Internet Protocol addresses.

 

Peterson said they tracked the e-mail sender to an island off the coast of Madagascar, and learned at least 50 similar letters had been sent across the nation through America Online.

 

No arrests have been made.

I know, I was too serious, I don't think I smiled the whole time they were filming me, of course I told them no shots of the back of my hair because I couldn't blow it dry, but they were filming me and I didn't know it.  At least they didn't show me from the waist down, with my purple socks on and my big ol shorts, me being comfy!
