Had my RNY surgery with Dr. Quilici on July 1st.  His nut says that 2 oz, 3 times daily is all I should be eating (protein drinks and liquids are ok between meals)0.  I'm sorry, but 2 oz leaves me hungry.  How much are/did you eat at 5 1/2 weeks?  Did you snack between meals?

at 5.5 weeks, I was eating about 1/4-1/2 cup food at a time, maybe 4 times/day.

Actually, by that time I was entering everything I ate in dailyplate.com and was suprised that I was eating 900-1100 calories/day.

My two cents...your mileage may vary. :)

My surgery was July 9.  I'm eating 1/4 C cottage cheese or a medium poached egg, blended tuna and cottage cheese. I have my protein drink 2-  times a day.  So far so good.  I haven't been hungry except once..when I baked a turkey for DH and I stuck my nose right up to it and inhaled real deep. LOL  I had some water and was full.  I'm thrilled.

What is it you are eating? That makes a difference too. If you eat chicken  it's denser and for me
fills me up faster. If you eat soft foods like yogart or cottage cheese it will take more. Just my observation. But really, drink your protein as often as you can it will keep you full.

Most RNY patients experience minimal hunger feelings for the first 3 months or so. This is my observation from going to 1-3 support meetings every month since surgery , except 2 months. So, from these 50+ meetings, I've met a lot of post ops. 2 oz is the meal size my surgeon recommends, and is measure in small one or 2 oz cups. Your "hunger feelings" are probably what we call head hunger. Even though you've eaten and you are not really hunger, your brain tells you that you've eaten too little and are still hungry. Use a protein shake between your 2 oz meals at this early stage. Most post ops do eat 5-6 small meals during the day, but only after they're about 6+ months out.  OR, they may eat 3 meals, and 2-3 snacks instead.  I still take 3-4 protein shakes per week to make sure I don't run short on protein intake.
