For those of you who havent read previous posts I'll break it down for ya. Got period June 1, quit smoking June 25, got period again June 27 and havent had a period since. I have been crampy bloated and sometimes constipated. My lower back is killing me. Anyway, pre-op is tomorow and now I wonder, could I have an ulcer, maybe even a bleeding ulcer? Would I know if I had one? I have been crampy since around June 23 when I was technically due for my period. I've had to take some mylanta for the bloating and a laxative for the constipation, all is well in that department now but I still have the cramps. Is my body just going through stress over surgery and no smoking. If it is I wish my body would just give me a break, geeez! If i do have an ulcer will that affect my surgery. I have so many thoughts going through my head right now and cant make sense of it. Mybe Im just stressin out and need to calm down. Thanks for letting me vent.

cramps are generally not an ulcer symptom. Epigastric pain is (Epigastric: "above the stomach")..where the solar plexus is. Where you will feel pain postop when you drink/eat too much. LOL

I remember from prior posts that you were not pregnant. If the surgeon is good, then go for the preop instructions. The period will come eventually...have fun with that. heh.

ok--deep breaths, deep breaths.  Now stress can cause a lot of what you mentioned and quitting smoking is a large life change too.  If you can, listen to some music you like, call a friend, go out for a walk--something to break the cycle here.  You know we have the very best surgeons so just remember that many good things are coming your way. Back pain and cramps could easily be related to your period issues(also common in times of stress).  Being stopped up might just be from the food you are eating now "before" while you still can.  I find myself thinking about going to the chinese smorggy one more time, eating guacamole salad one more time, eating McD's breakfast one more time....so even though you are a week closer to surgery we all have our own set of hopes and fears.  Remember, deep breaths, see you PCP if thing get awful.  Bleeding uclers cause a dark, black stool (but so does Pepto Bismo).  They can be detected by blood work and then ruled out later by further tests.  Can you get to your pre-op ok?  If not, have a friend drive you.  I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.  Helga

Thanks Helga, I think its just nerves and I really think the smoking thing has shocked my body delaying my period. My stools have looked a little dark but I think its from the laxative and antacid i've been taking. My body is just letting me know its here! I can definatley get to my appt tomorrow and I cant wait to get things over with. I havent been moving alot, kinda loafing around the house so maybe the lack of activity has something to do with this also. Who knows! IM not worried about the surgery, Im more worried something will get in my way of having it and I swear I have been smoke free for 6 weeks now. Ive never had an EKG so I hope my heart is OK. Im just obsessing over things that could go wrong instead of staying positive. I will IM you tomorrow and let you know how things go. Thanks again.
