I am having severe abdominal pain. I had lap RNY on sept. 24, 2007. It all started last Thursday. It lasted for a few hours. Then it happended fri, and sat. On Sunday night it woke me up from my sleep. It has been constant ever since Sunday night. I feel a terrible burning sensation in my stomach right under the breast in the middle. It is tender to the touch and very bloated. I feel nauseaus and very miserable. The burning sensation is the worse. I don't have my gall bladder and when I went to the er on Tuesday night they did a ct scan with contrast and found that everything looked okay except for the fact that my small bowel looked a little enlarged. I can't eat or drink anything. I have no appetite and when I do eat the pain becomes worse. All of my blood work came back normal. I don't know what to do!!!! Has anyone else experience these symptoms. I feel like someone has been kicking me in the stomach!!
MY GI DR. TOLD ME TO TAKE PRILOSEC OTC 40 MG DAILY AND THAT HASN'T WORKED.

I'm sorry to hear your have such severe abdominal pain.  Have you called your surgeon???  I would call him right away!!!  Otherwise I would go back to ER maybe a different hospital and demand them to look your small bowel more closely!!!

I have to agree with Michelle here, have you called your surgeons office? If someone told me my small bowel looked enlarged that would worry me....there has to be a reason??

GO to Hoag Hospital and make sure they check your appendix as well.  These are the symtoms my DH had when it was appendex.

When I had severe pain, at first I thought it was bad gas, but after 2 days it never went away. Finally I  called my surgeon at 3 AM, he told me to meet him at the hospital. I was in tears because we were scheduled to fly off to Ireland one week later.

All the tests in the ER came back negative. My surgeon walked in and told me that's exactly what he thought would happen. He wanted to do lap surgery that day to look inside. He was sure I had a hernia. Turns out he knew what he was doing I had a hernia big enough to fit 3 golf balls in and my bowels were getting caught in it that what was causing the pain. It could have been a life threatening thing. Good news was, he fixed it I went home the next day and flew off to Ireland with his blessing the following week.

Please, if your in pain call your surgeon.

I'm sorry to hear your in so much pain. I would definitely call your surgeon. And, I would demand that more tests be run. Something isn't right & you need to find out why. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

I CONTACTED MY SURGEON FROM DAY ONE AND I WAS TOLD TO GO TO THE ER.  HE WASN'T MY PERSONAL SURGEON BUT A DR. IN THE GROUP.  I WENT TO ER AGAIN AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY SMALL BOWEL HAD GONE DOWN CONSIDERABLY.  THAT IT LOOKED LIKE I HAD A SEVERE CASE OF GASTRITIS AND I MAY HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY SAID IT IS ONE OF THE COMPLICATIONS OF RNY.  THEY TOLD ME TO FOLLW UP WITH MY DR. WITHIN 24HRS TO SCHEDULE AN ENDOSCOPY.  THE PRESCRIBED MAALOX AND ZANTAC. THEY ALSO TOLD ME TO AVOID SPICY FOODS AND SLEEP PROPPED UP.  I DON'T HAVE AN APPETITE AND DON'T WANT TO DRINK.  I KNOW I WANTED TO LOSE THE LAST 15 LBS BUT NOT THIS WAY!!  I'VE ALREADY LOST 5 LBS SINCE TUESDAY NIGHT.   THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR COMMENTS AND SUPPORT.  I WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED.

Just to be on the safe side, I would go see a Gastroenterologist (Internal Medicine) because you may have a twisted intestine or a blockage, either of which can cause gangrene and/or poison your system.

The longer you wait, the worse it will be.  I have heard of other RNY patients experiencing twisted intestines.  Demand action!
