I have a young lady staying with me this summer who is on Medi-Cal and it's been horrible trying to find her a doctor. I can't imagine trying to find a bariatric surgeon. Have you tried Kaiser?
Kaiser will let you sign up for them if you are on MediCal and they do have a bariatric program.

Hi,
A woman I used to work with had been on Medi-Cal when she was considering surgery. She had contacted UCSF and told there was a 2 year waiting list. In the past 2 years she has put on at least 100 pounds and now says she is not going to have surgery. Maybe you could call there and see if they accept Medi-Cal and if so how long is the wait.

On the back of your card is a 1800 number for Blue Cross that you can call and ask for the name of a specialist in your area. They will also be able to tell you is you can go to the doctor you did find. You can also call your case worker and get them to assist you in finding out the info you need.

My daughter, on Medi-Cal, jumped through all of the hoops required to qualify for a VSG with Dr. Morton at Stanford Hospital and then discovered a 2 year waiting list. Very depressing to go through all of that and then find out that you have to wait an entire year for your first appointment with the surgeon. We ended up going with self-pay so that she wouldn't have to wait for her surgery, but I do believe that many hospitals and surgeons have financial assistance programs.
