Surgery Complications Almost 4 Years Out

When I though everything about my RNY was good I have developed an incisional hernia that will need surgery to correct almost 4 years out.   This will be complication number 2 since I had the RNY.  I am now waiting to see the surgeon to see when the corrective surgery will take place.  To make a long story short, it is painful and cannot go on like this.

In addition it does not help having a child with autism, since it requires a lot of physical strength to control his behaviors.  Anyway, that is what is going on with me right now.  I  guess the RNY is no picnic in the park.  OUCH!!!

Sorry to hear the news.  I know what you're talking about regarding "complications"...they can come at anytime and that's the part I sometimes wonder.

Anyhow, at least they will fix you up soon and next thing you know, you'll be back on your feet.  I've also have had complications with abdominal PAIN which my surgeon suggested exploratory surgery...I know, ugghhhhh.

I'm still happy with my RNY and will do it again.

Best wishes

I am happy with mine, but not happy with the drama.  I am however holding my weight down.   Had a bunch of tests yesterday and found my cholesterol high, don't know why, but I suspect the coffee that I drank may have something to do with it since I should have been fasting.  I will have to repeat the test again.  They also found me a little anemic and "microalbumin" high.

I don't know what all of that means, but I'll find out soon.  I just look it up in the internet.  LOL

Anyway, thanks for responding and for still hanging around.

Regards,
Guillermo

Guillermo....hope that your doctor repairs you soon and you can get on with life. I know it must be difficult with having your family situation as it is and then having to deal with the pain. Get well soon! And just remember....although a surgery complication....you know it was worth it because think if you were fat and having to take care of an autistic child...way worse dude!

Thanks for responding, I have to agree with your comment regarding being fat and having to deal with a child in the autism spectrum.  I am just a little down with the drama of it all.  Some of my blood tests were a little bit dissapointing.  However, I am moving forward.

Guillermo

Guillermo,

I have not had my surgery but I can understand your frustration.  I did not look as to how much weight you have lost or your health issues prior to surgery.  But I believe having the extra weight has more problems then 2 that you have had so far.  RNY is not the easy way out as some think.  It is hard work and lots of sacrafice.  But I am sure not having the extra weight makes up for all that.

I also have a son that is autistic.  I am a foster/adoptive mom.  I am almost done fostering as I am adopting 2 more in November and then I am done with that.  I have about 8 autistic children in my care, and the last one of those is the one we are adopting in November.  It is a hard and long road  If you ever want to chat about it please feel free to PM me.
