Staples and an MRI question
I heard the other night that is your doctors uses staples in your surgery you can no longer get an MRI. I have not heard this beofre and am looking to the masses for answers.
Found this but its kinda vague..........
The staples used on the stomach and the intestines are very tiny in comparison to the staples you will have in your skin or staples you use in the office. Each staple is a tiny piece of stainless steel or titanium so small it is hard to see other than as a tiny bright spot. Because the metals used (titanium or stainless steel) are inert in the body, most people are not allergic to staples and they usually do not cause any problems in the long run. The staple materials are also non-magnetic, which means that they will not be affected by MRI. The staples will not set off airport metal detectors
Any info ?? looks like a case for MYTHBUSTERS

In general, metal objects used in orthopedic surgery pose no risk during MRI. However, a recently placed artificial joint may require the use of another imaging procedure. If there is any question of their presence, an x-ray may be taken to detect the presence of any metal objects.

Well I for one think it is a myth about the staples because I still have staples in my gut from when I had my gallbladder out in 1975 and techs love pointing out that I have them. I am like duh. I have had no problems with an MRI or getting it read!
