I've asked my PCP to re-refer me Richmond because the wait to see a surgeon at Kaiser South San Fran is 36 weeks .   I'm reeeeeeally hoping Richmond has a much shorter wait.  Anyone have any info??

Be safe and well, B.B.

Hi Kami i went through Kaiser SSF and believe me it is so worth the wait because this journey is truly about self-exploration the weeks rolled by and I researched and studied every aspect of this surgery. I spent a lot of time wondering if this was for me or not...I also worked on getting my weight down for surgery..... the time that you spend waiting does seem like forever but believe me...once things start moving they never stop!! I am not sure if you are doing the lapband/bypass or some other type of surgery. Also your meeting with the surgeon happens closer to you being scheduled for surgery...for me was one of the final steps.....they really want to make sure you have lost some of your required 10% and get through the Nutrition class...the psych eval....the other multitude of classes before you meet with the surgeon. I got the sense that they wanted you to be committed before you get to meet with your surgeon. I am not sure that Kaiser Richmond is any better since the program seems overwhelmed at all the places that do them. Good Luck you...T

Hi T,

Thanks so much for your response.  I definitely hear what you're saying.  I've been researching and researching for so long now, I'm just aching to have surgery.  It's taken me 2 years to get this far and I'm so tired of waiting.  36 weeks seems like an eternity to me.

Be safe and well, B.B.

I agree I have Kaiser in Southern Ca. and going to the classes really helped so much you are given so much information. You know what to expect and what you need to do, you just understand things much better. I had the sleeve done on June 25th and am feeling very good. I lost 40 lbs before surgery and 25 so far after.  Good luck to you.

Hi,

I am not a Kaiser patient, but live in Vacaville and go to the support meetings at Kaiser Vacaville.

The majority of those attending the meeting had their surgery at Kaiser Richmond.  They seemed to really love their docs there (the main one is Dr. Baggs that they speak about).  I hear wonderful things about how they educate you and really ensure you know what to expect.

Not sure what you are wanting to know about Kaiser Richmond, but if you have specific questions, send them to me privately, I can forward them over to someone I know who had the surgery there and have her contact you directly with answers.

I agree with you...36 weeks DOES seem like an eternity; especially since you've done your homework well ahead of now.  I'd say in the meantime, just work on your weightloss goal that they gave you cause I hear they are REALLY strict about you being at that weight or below at your last appointmnt before surgery.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!!

PEACE,   Harriet

HI Betty,
I have Kaiser Going SSF for my surgery. I so understand the process it does seem like forever. I had my orentation Nov. 20th of last yr and Im still waiting on my surgery. I really do understand your frustration. I had done all my research and was ready. I am ready to begin my new chapter in life. I hold out hope that for whatever the reason it is taking so long that when the time is right it will happen not before and not after. If you have any questions send me a message.

Good Luck,
Shannon
