5 day pouch test

Hi all,

I was wondering if any one knows what the 5 day pouch test is? I concerned about weight plateaus, I seem to be on a pattern where I'll go 2 weeks with no weight loss and then drop 13-15 lbs in the next 2 weeks. Is this normal? On most days I do get my 60+ grams of protein but my water intake is not so good maybe 30-40 ozs daily and I exercise 4 time a week.

Surgery date 02/07/08  HW 336, SW 307, CW 212.

I don't know about the pouch test, but I do know that the plateaus are completely normal... your body has to catch up with the loss and "tighten" up a bit.  I bet if you watch during the two weeks your not losing, you are losing inches.

Do try to increase your water, because the more water you drink the more capable you are to "flush" out the fat from your body.

Keep it up and don't lose heart!

Everyone loses at different rates.  So you are losing the way your body wants you to lose.  You do not need the 5 day pouch test, you aren't even 6 months out of surgery.  Your body needs to catch up to the pounds lost.  So do not be doing anything to your pouch except eating your protein first, drink your water.  It will get easier to get more water in one you get closer to a year out, but you need to make a good effort to get it in now too.  Just always have a bottle with you and sip all day.  Follow what the doctor tells you to do.  I am over 18 months out and do not even want to try the pouch test.  I still can't eat alot.  Also remember you are exercising and it does build alot of muscle.  As others told me, go by the way your clothes feel, not by what the scale says.

Good luck, Diane

It's WAY TOO SOON for you to do the 5DPT and plateaus are VERY normal!!! Make sure you are taking monthly pictures and measurements because when the scale isn't moving something else is changing! It helps to see the whole picture and at least have something to see changing!!!
You are doing GREAT so far, just keep up the protein and water and you will be fine sweetie!  bigg huggs, Becky

Thank you all for your responses I really appreciate them. The picture suggestion is great, I wish I would have taken one before surgery... I still haven't taken one yet, my aversion to cameras goes real deep...
