DH just had surgery
HI all. I read a little, but have never posted. DH is laying in hospital bed after RNY today. Any "I wish my SO knew that when I was recovering" thoughts?
He is in a bit more pain than he expected (I assume, he hasnt been up much, and when he has has not wanted to talk much, which is just fine, I am a fly on the wall unless he needs me) Has not been up yet to walk, they want him to this evening. Anyway, thanks for any thoughts.

I know it's counter intuitive but he needs to get up and walk! I've heard the gas pains are the worst so walk walk walk. I was lucky and had no pain but I was up and walking 2-3 hours after getting out of recovery. :)
Swanson fat free 33% less sodium is great with unflavored whey protein is wonderful. Most everything else was too sweet for me. Trial and error all the way. :-)

hi whitney...I'm sure it's hard trying to support DH right now... I didn't want to talk much, either..partly because my throat was sore from the tube they put down it during surgery...
did he have laparoscopic surgery, or open incision?
If lap, he'll probably have a pain on his left side for a few days.. normal...
and maybe sore shoulders from both the gas inside him, and the strange positions they have us in during surgery...
I wish I knew how much better I would feel, and how SOON I would feel better! the first few days were hard for me.
best wishes to you both!
Lori
Sounds like you are doing exactly what he needs for now, just hang out and wait for him to need something, basically.
Some people have mixed results but I found the GasX strips to be really helpful in the days after my surgery for the remnant gas inmy abdomen, and a heating pad was great when it had settled into my shoulders.
Just hang in there and let him go at his own pace for a few days, he will be up and bounding around before you know it!
