I have some more questions, lol!! If we are on medication currently, will it be okay to still take in pill/capsule form?? Also, I'm not sure if I'm reading right... is it true that you can't drink while you are eating?  Why is that? Sorry for all my questions!!! Crysti

Hi.  I was able to take pills right away.  Some people have problems feeling like they're "stuck".  My surgeon recomends that we don't drink 30 minutes before or after meals, so we can give the food time to move through properly, allowing us to absorb the protein and nutrients.  Good luck!

Hello Crysti I am pre-op however I know that I am NOT allowed to swallow any pills for the first 6 weeks, after that I can swallow them as long as I am able to.  For the first six weeks I was told to either get my medication in a liquid form or I would have to crush them prior to swallowing.   As far as the not drinking while eating I believe this is to do not streching the pouch and allowing the food to sit alone in your pouch because of the size.  I know that I am not describing that very well.  Hope that helps! I was on a ton of meds before surgery, and when I got home I continued to take them.  No more hand fulls just one at a time is all I could do.  It took a good part of the morning sometimes, but once the pills were gone for the diabetes and other things that were weight related, it got alot easier.  The only thing I do chew is my iron pills.  I take the calicum and all my other vitamins.  I did do some chewy flintstone vitamins for a bit, but then just said it was such a pain.  Yes you are reading right.  Not drinking with my meals is very difficult still for me.  I don't always make the 30 minutes, but someone replied as to why we need to abide by the rule. That's true they can be made in a liquid form... I don't have many meds... just curious..  And vitamins worry me more, since I have issues taking them now with a big tummy!  I guess there are alternatives to those too...  :) Thanks!

I was given my pills the following day after surgery.  They don't go down that easily, but it is manageable.  Told not to drink 30 minutes before and after, as the liquid moves the food thru too fast and would enable me to overeat.  Good luck!!
