Support Group question....

Good Morning All. I live in Hesperia, CA (middle of nowhere in case your not familiar, lol)  But i am interested in the WLS and i have been reading up on things here on the OH website.....are the support groups a good idea to get into before i have the surgery or should i wait til i begin the process or shall i just wait til after i have the surgery (GOD willing it's approved and everything works out) Early last year i went to my doctor and told her i was interested in the surgery......she just shot me down and made me feel like complete **** (excuse my language but thats how i felt)  2 months later, i'm glad she shot me down only because i found out i was pregnant.  Now i've had my 4th son (he's 2 months old) and i have changed physicians in hopes of getting the WLS. I'm going to go to a informational meeting on the 8th of July but was wondering if i should also attend the support groups? Your help is appreciated!  Thanks!  Ang~ 

Ang,   I personally began attending support groups prior to me being approved for surgery.  I think it helped me see the bigger picture...especially of what to expect for recovery,  The information you receive from support groups is priceless..at least it was for me!! Angee,   I seriously freaked out when they roled me into the OR.  They just gave me my "dream drugs" and out I went!!  LOL  I was pretty calm leading up to the surgery.  I had to fight for two years to get my surgery.  You will be FINE!!! Hugs, Heather

Iam 4 years post op. I wish I had gotten involved in a support group before I had surgery. Education is  great!!  I would of  prepared myself weeks before WLS so much differently if I  would of been more educated.

Support groups are great.  My insurace actually required me to go to one before my surgery was even authorized.  I gained a lot from going.  In fact when I first thought about WLS I was thinking Lap Band, but have changed my mind and I am going to have RNY Bypass on July 23rd.  I don't think you can go wrong by attending support before hand.  Hope everything works out for you Linda

Hi Ang, My surgery is next week and I've gone to 3 support meetings.  I'm really glad I did.  Folks there talk first hand about their trials and tribulations as well as the good things.  It's been very helpful. Take care and keep us posted on your journey ---jan---
