I was just approved for gastric bypass surgery. Everything went rather quick thank god.  I suffered from panic attacks ten years ago but have been fine until recently. I notice that during ovulation and through my cycle I am quite anxious and irritable (which I did advise the psych doctor of when i had my psych eval).  My primary doc just put me on xanax 0.5mg and its been working great.  My question is, when I saw the bariatric surgeon I was not on this medication and will obviously have pre-op blood work to do.  I plan on calling the office to let them know of the new medication but am afraid they may delay my surgery or even cancel since I am now on xanax.  Can anyone help or give me some advice.

I am also on Xanax.  My surgeon and my primary care Dr are aware of this, and this had no effect on my surgery.  I hope this helps. Linda

If I am right, you take xanax as needed, so I don't think this will be a problem, because I take Prozac every day 20mg, and that wasn't an issue.  Have a Great Day! Annabelle Never give up on Your DREAMS........No matter how long it takes.............
NEVER GIVE UP .. 355 higest, 312 WLS day, 135 current, no longer OBEASE,, lost 220, and IM AT GOAL!!!!!!

I honestly don't think that will be an issue. I remember my surgeon telling me that a large number of his patients are on some sort of medication for depression, so I wouldn't worry about it. Blessings!!

It shouldn't make a difference. I am, and was on Prozac and my surgeon actually said he wanted me to stay on it for at least a year postop!  Congratulations on your approval! I hope you get a date soon!!! May God bless your journey!     biggest hugs, Becky

Hi! I suffer from panic attach syndrome. I pretty much control it with meditation, but I was worried that the stress of the surgery might bring on major panic's that I wouldn't be able to control. My PC gave me Lexapro (after my initial approval). My surgeon didn't have a problem with it.  Breath deep! Wishing you well, Rachel
