Anthem Blue Cross HMO

Hi, I am posting here for my brother who lives in San Diego.   He has Anthem BCBS HMO.  They say they cover Gastric Bypass but he needs to find a doctor that will contract with them?  Does anyone know of any? Sue Grissett [email protected]

His primary care physician should have someone their medical group contracts with.

If the PCP's office doesn't know, he should call the medical group listed on his ID card to find out who they're contracted with.

If the medical group doesn't know or doesn't have anyone, look on OH in the physicians section - there's a place for insurance, IIRC. He might just need to start calling offices. It may turn out that he needs to switch medical groups to one that has a bariatric surgeon.

For what it's worth, if his PCP submits for bariatric surgery, the authorization should come back with the name of the contracted provider, I would think.
