GREAT NEWS -

First of all thank all of you for your encouragement and responses.  I just got back from my consultation appt.  My Insurance only requires that I have a nutritional and psychological evaluation.  They will call me back as soon as the get the authorization for the psych and my appt with the nutritionist is 7/7/08.  I was told that my surgery would be scheduled for August provided there are no complications.

Oh and I also have to have a filter inserted in to my groin area because I have had two blood clots back in 2003.  I had Breast cancer in 2000 and was on Tamoxifen   and had a Life port put in for the chemotherapy.  The doctors believed that my blood clots (in my juggler vein) were either from the Tamoxifen and or the life port.  My life port was removed and I was put on Arimidex instead of Tomoxifen and I haven’t had a blood clot

since.

Has anyone else had this filter put in??

Hi Gina, Sounds like you are on your way to the loosers bench. I did not have a filter but I do believe Jean, (our POTW of this week) had one if I am not mistaken.

Please keep us updated. Whoooo hoooo for you!

Hi Gina Yes, it was me that had the IVC filter placed before my WLS.  It was an out patient procedure - but for me they went through my neck.....but they did tell me that if that didn't work they would go through the groin...take a look at my profile - I believe I talk about it there.  It wasn't bad so don't fret.  I had it removed about 2 mos after my RNY and that was a little more difficult but still out patient procedure done in the radiology dept.  THey gave me lots of the "happy" drugs so I didn't care what they did.  I do know Ihad to have someone take me....and you have to stay for a few hours after the procedure to make sure everything is ok and there is no bleeding. Good luck and feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
