Hubby was lactose intolerant before surgery but can now drink ff mil**** cream, cheese and cottage cheese with no problems.   I do not have a problem with cottage cheese or milk myself. either. It took me about a week through the same office for a date, but i ended up calling to pu**** along.

Guess Lori is wrong on that one for George and then I had a horrible time with dairy prior.....now it does not bother me and can drink milk based products. I would never eat the SF ice cream again although....horrible dumping nor would I step foot in a McD's for an ice cream!

Both of you are doing fantastic!

Hi Linda, Everyone is different and unfortunatley you won't know what that pouch of yours will do or not do. Some people tolerate sugar, milk etc. just fine- others do not. I wish I was sensative to sugar but I am not. Then again, i haven't really tested the waters too much but the stuff I have tested has turned out fine and I haven't dumped.  You will get to know your pouch in time...  I just started drinking milk every once in a while. I love it and can tolerate it just fine. I have to be careful though because the milk will lead to other things like CAPTAIN CRUNCH cereral and I love that stuff. LOL Good luck to you and asking as many questions that you have is a good thing. I encourage you to ask away... the more research you do and are educated before the surgery the better.  Hugs, J

I'm kind of lactose intolerant.  I can only handle about 2oz of milk at one time and about 1 large spoonful of ice cream, after that I get sick.  BUT...I can do all other dairy from cheese to yogurt, it's just milk & ice cream that don't like me although I do still like them.  I've not tried to take lactaid...maybe I should?  Hmmmmmm.... Good luck!

I became very slightly intolerant after WLS, but much more so after getting pregnant.  Go figure.  You'll just have to see what your pouch will allow you to do.  Good luck on your upcoming surgery though, we're all pulling for you!  You're going to do great! -Donna

I was told by my nutritionist that lactose intolerance might rear it's ugly head after bypass surgery, and yes, it did.  I did not have it before.  This morning's cereal/milk  caused  real problems.  My mom went out and got me  lactaid milk and I'll try that tomorrow morning.  By the way, I did tolerate the low fat cheese sticks just fine.  I'm 3 weeks post op.  Maybe it's just temporary?  Fern
