Hi Kim, I know my surgeon said no caffeine so I would just go by your surgeon's protocol.

First of all congratulations on the great job you've done so far!!!  Surgeons have varying answers to the caffeine issue. Mine says no caffeine. I don't do caffeine for the most part, but it never has affected me in any way, so it is no big deal for me!  I know a lot of people on OH drink caffeine and many do the half caff thing. I do know that if you drink caffeine, you need to make sure your water intake is upped to make up for the dehydrating factor!!!  What does your surgeon say about it??

I've read that caffeine can be harsh on our new pouches.  I suffered from GERD before surgery (gastric reflux) and it was painful...I don't want to do that again.
But boy oh boy do I love the taste of coffee!!!!
So I allow myself one serving a week and it's a treat.  Even then, I pour it myself and its about 75% decaf.  I know I can easily develop a caffeine habit...if that's my only vice as a post-op then I consider myself lucky.   I'd rather be hooked on caffeine than shopping, alcohol, or some other unhealthy compulsion.

Well darlin enjoy the buzz while it lasts.  When I went back to leaded coffee after 9 months post op I got the cool buzz too.  Only lasted a few weeks though the bod will adjust to it.  And like the others said your DR would have the best advice for the coffee issue.

Hi Kim,

I try to stay away from it as much as possible. When decaf is available I always choose the decaf. I don't get much caffeine since I don't drink soda anymore. I drink a ton of hot tea (decaf). I just like the taste of coffee- don't drink it for a pick me up or buzz... just like the taste so I choose decaf over caffeine because I know it's better for me.  Congrats on your loss of 83 pounds. That is amazing!!!
