Still haven't figured it out- confused
Hello OH family, I am a little confused about something... is it better that we eat 3 meals a day only or small meals throughout the day? I have heard different information and things from different people. Before WLS weigh****chers taught us that it's better to eat small meals throughout the day and eat every couple of hours. I think this may be a silly question but I am just curious if anyone knows what the general rule of thumb is? I could eat small portions all day- 1 egg here and there, one peice of cheese here and there slice of turkey etc. or I could eat 3 solid meals (chicken breasts etc.) just 3 times a day. For me it seems eating throughout the day would promote grazing and snacking which caused my fatness in the first place.
My surgeon and nutritionist were very firm on only 3 meals per day, no snacking at all.
The way they explained it to me is that they said that is helps get your insulin cycles back to normal. This would include having ups and downs. Everytime you eat, your body produces insulin. With snacking, you need more insulin day to day to digest the snacks, and insulin causes horrid weight gain. (I know, cause I gained 10 lbs in 3 days when I started on the injections!)
Here is the website for my surgeon with their dietary recommendations. Unfortunately it doesn't go into the 'whys' behind the recommendations, but at least you can see what they suggest.
Hope this helps!
