3 Years Ago Today...
... my surgeon, Dr Jeffrey Apple at Naval Medical Station San Diego rocked my world by doing my WLS!
Wow! Has my life changed! I am no longer diabetic... (that was my main reason for doing it), I am strong, healthy and able to do anything I want to do..
I can walk, run, work out, fit in amusement park rides, wear regular sized clothing, fit in airplane seats and folding chairs, dance, play on the floor with my grandkids, hike, and well, do all those things that as obese people we found uncomfortable or even impossible.
I went from my high of 292 to my current 175.(I am 5'7") I am by no means skinny or really even thin but I am comfortable in my own skin and feel great.
But this "magic cure" is not really magic.. NEWBIES!!!! this is for you! This surgery as everyone keeps telling you, is a tool. A highly effective, dramatic, successful tool but still just a tool. A means to an end if you will. Last December I found I had gained back 20 lbs. As I inched to 200 I did feel panicky. So I started weighing myself DAILY (this doesnt work for everyone by the way!) and getting back to basics. Protein, exercise, cut out the bad carbs and the worst of the worst.. GRAZING!!!! WLS babies.. listen... after your honeymoon phase is over the grazing will kill you! Planned healthy snacks are fine.. I have them everyday.. But the perpetual bite of this, piece of that all day will add pounds on in no time.
Always be aware that everyting you put in your mouth has calories and counts! So now I count calories, being mindful of protein. I have done the 5 day pouch test twice recently and am grateful that my "tool" is still working! I have lost al the weight I had put on and a couple of pounds more.
Finally, to my brothers and sisters in the OH community. I know I am the worst lurker in the world! I get crap for that all the time but I have met with many of you and you continue to inspire me! You remind me daily that I am not alone in this, you encourage me (Becky), make me laugh (Nadine) and cry sometimes (Vicki M) and have become my bestest friends ever (Christine) and not just them, all of you... THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart...
And so HAPPY SURGIVERSARY to me.. WOOOO HOOOO!!!

My ugly mug makes you cry sometimes?? I am sorry.
You speak the truth, Sistah!! Next month is 3 for me too and the lbs have started creeping a little and it is making me sad. Of course, I feel sad- I start to eat....which leads to the lbs....which leads to being sad....rinse....repeat....OYE. Gotta get a grip!!
Love you lady!!! Looking forward to seeing you next month (or the end of this month...whatever works for everyone)!
