can't pee
Hearing from you guys that my feeling sore all over is pretty normal. Many thanks for the
feedback, and I do believe you that I will feel better in a couple of days.
I am having a hard time peeing. In hospital they had to catheterize as I couldn't. Finally
discharged me when I was able to - once. Now, home, same problem, can't. That darned
foley really did me in. If it goes on much longer I'll have to go to ER for another catheter. Did any of you have trouble from the foley put in for surgery? (sorry to be so graphic!) Fern
Yes, sorry to say. Had to go home with the foley for a week. Was not fun. They put me on Flomax and I had to wait a week to try it again. I had to go to a Urologist. They drained the catheter (my bladder), then filled my bladder up with alot of warm water. I was able to go and have been fine ever since. I brused my bladder so I had a small amount of blood with the urine too. It usually is because of the anaesthesia. Hopefully you'll be better in a day or two without that thing. PM me if you have any more question. I know this can be sensitive...but it sure was a pain in the rear!! Sleep where you can and how you can. It can be in a chair or bed or on the floor. Brian
Fern,
I am a Dr. Higa patient too and my surgery was Tues June3 at Clovis Community Med. center. I too had a foley, however did not have trouble after it was removed. The nurses were very carefull to measure our (my roommate and I) urine output after the foley was removed. I am surprised they let you go home. I am still sore also, turning over in bed is horrible. Good luck.

How quickly did they take the foley out after surgery? How soon did they get you up walking?
They put me on a heart ward, because they bypass ward was full. They didn't get me up until
11pm (very briefly) and surgery was done at 3pm. They didn't take the foleyout until the next
day when Higa came by and asked them to. He seemed suprised I hadn't gotten up that day
at all, only the night before. I'd asked to get up but the nurse said no. Fern
Fern, Were you also at Clovis Community Med. Center? I also kept asking to get up to walk and either no one would come in or they would say they would be in soon. It really bothered me as I know how important it is to get up and walk and I knew I could not go home until I started walking. Even my room mate was getting mad at them for not helping me (after they helped me the first time I could unhook and go walking on my own). She even called the nurses for me ! but everything else I called them for they came right in to take care of . I was upstairs in my bed by 2 or 3 and did not get to wal****il about 10:00 at night. How are you doing now?
Take care,
Kim B
Yep, I go see doc Higa tomorrow for my 1 week post op. I expect to be put on pureed diet. My hubby made a pot of vegetable soup when I got home from the hosp. and I have been drinking the broth and we pureed some and put it in the freezer for next week. The soup is yummy and packed with good stuff for us. Feeling any better?
Take care,
Kim
