We have several friends that have been asking us to meet for dinner, and we have been making excuses for why we just can't make it, we are running out of excuses. I am 6 weeks post-op and prior to surgery we did alot of socalizing with friends by going out to lunch or dinner (most live out of town so we meet at someplace to eat and catch up) Can you give me some suggestions as what to eat/order that is probally safe. We usually go to  Applebees, Chilies, Mexican resturants, Olive Garden Etc. Thanks for your suggestions.  Lisa

That early out my honey and I would order something and share it. Usally Something Beef as that is what my tummy liked not fried. I did eat very much so it really was not worth spending the money buying me something shoot we still do that a lot of times. Soup is also a Great idea just becareful with creamy ones I dump a on a lot of milk fat. Big hugs, Celest

If you are able to eat shrimp or chicken, Applebees has a WW menu.  Just avoid the tortillas.  http://www.applebees.com/menu_WW_static.aspx    Maybe some of these things at Chilies - http://www.chilis.com/menu/default.asp?catID=7&tierID=161&Un it_ID=&menuType=Dine+In  Think protein first!! my family lives to eat out, when I was a newer post-op I'd get chili, soup or shrimp ****tail.  Now I sometimes eat the insides of a sandwich or a salad with chicken on it.
it's about the people, not about the food.  focus on who you are with and don't worry so much about what you're eating or what people will think.
Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired."

Oh, I guess that I should have mentioned that my husband is very willing to share a meal with me, he just wants to make sure that it is something that I can eat without problems.  Soup is a good suggestion, I eat alot of it at home, and I will keep in mind the hint about the creamy ones. Someone mentioned salads, do you not have trouble eating the greens. I haven't tried salad yet. I do like salads, so if they are ok I can go that way. Thanks for the suggestions. Lisa

Dr Krahns post-op  program is meat, cheese  and eggs There is plenty to eat... A steak, grilled salmon, omlette, pizza toppings... Get creative, I was dining out a month after surgery.  We went to Red Lobster and I had grilled shrimp... Good luck.

~~ It's all fun and games, til someone gets hurt~~

Hi Lisa-We don't go out to eat much, but when we do, I stick with thing that I know I can tolerate.  I normally stick with salads, broiled chicken, veggies (as long as there is no sauces) or if they come with a sauce I ask for it on the side.  The only place that I can actully eat at is Taco Bell.  I don't try new things when I am out just for the fact that you never know what it is going to do to you.  Just be sensible.
