Are there any patients of Dr higa in Fresno on this message board? I'm having lap band surgery in July and I would like to hear from some of his other patients how their surgeries went.

Congrats on your weight loss, 61 lbs is awesome! I really liked Dr Higa when I met him, but it's great to hear that he was so good with you.

Hello, I am a patient of Dr.Higa also.  I initially had my band in 2006 but it slipped (check out my profile if you want the boring details) and since I recently moved to the area, Dr. Higa performed the corrective surgery.  I think that he is a fantasitc doctor and while I really liked my original doctor, I am glad that since I had to switch I got a great doctor.  He is the president of the AMerican Society for Metobolic and Bariatric Surgery.  He has a very busy practice which does not allow him to spend as much time with each appointment but I really like his straight forward approach and he has a dry sense of humor which I like:-) All the best with your surgery.

Hi--- We may have "talked" before------ I  will have Dr. Higa after July 2nd----I am in Carmel--and first went to dr. VIerra----- and because of insurance---I am refered to Higa------ I've done all the testing he has required---and lost weight too (60###'SS!!!)  so--- I am hoping for quick approval and surgery dates  ( like we all hope for!)  I have ONLY heard good things about Dr. Higa---and dr. Vierra said the same----so I feel confident. There are a few people on this board that have just had surgery with Dr. Higa---so hopefully they will see your post as well! Best of luck----- glad you have your date-----soon I'll be asking YOU how it went! Take care, Lori

Lori, good luck with Higa. I have so much confidence with him. He kept my pain and nausea totally under control, and I'm slowly eating just fine. Fern

Hi,

You're in Carmel?!  I'm in PG!  We should get together for coffee sometime!!  Do you go to the support group at CHOMP?  Maybe I've already met you!

Hi, I just had surgery with Higa on June 6. Dr. Vierra in Monterey referred me to Higa. Vierra felt very strongly I go to Fresno/Higa, rather than other choices in San Jose and the Bay Area. I went to my post-op last week, and they released me to Vierra. So, no more trips to Fresno. Surgery went fine. Had a problem with my bladder, but at two weeks out I'm feeling fine, down 20+ pounds. Higa's office is very organized, and he even called me at home afterwards. Honestly, I saw very little of him; 2 minutes for consult, 5 minutes for pre-op, 2 minutes in hospital 3 times, and none for post-op. Very nice, cute sense of humor. What I got was the best surgeon, bottom line, and I'm very satisfied. Fern

Hi,

I had my surgery w/ Dr. Higa on February 20th.  I was really happy with him -- he was great and all went well.  Unfortunately, my port flipped, which has nothing to do with him -- sometimes it just happens -- so I'm getting my revision surgery next Friday.

Like FernTate, I also went to Dr. Vierra in Monterey first, but had to go to a Center of Expertise for the actual surgery (due to insurance) and Dr. Vierra only wanted me to see Dr. Higa.  I was really happy with him!
