I'm a junior high teacher.  My district MADE me take off 4 weeks.  My RNY was open, so I'm glad I had the 4 weeks. JudyAnne

I was a wound care nurse at the time and took 2 weeks off cuz the Dr. told me I had to.  I can honestly tell you I wish that I would have taken more off.  I would go in after and work 3/4 of my day then go home.  They wee awesome too.  I received stated disability plus I had short term disability that I used too.  I missed no money. Took 2 weeks off (lap RNY) but was ready to go back after just a week. I felt great with the exception of tiring quickly. Going back to work helped me adjust to a routine with eating, and just living my daily life without any fanfare. Remember, everyone is different and what works for one might not work for another. My motivation before and after surgery made me want to get back to normal daily life incorporating my new eating habits.

I was out on disability for 8 weeks.  I recieved FMLA (family leave act) during that time.  As long as you let your employer know (via Human Resources dept.) as soon as possible and fill out the necessary paperwork ASAP, you should not have any problem.  FYI, you do not have to tell your immediate supervisor why you are going on leave (google HIPPA for more infomation) only the fact that you are going on leave and when you will be back.
Without struggle, there is no progress.
