I'm planning on recieving disability for the duration that I'm out of work due to my sugery. I'm just curious as to how long you were out of work, and what your job is? Also Were you able to recieve disablilty?

Lindsey, When I had my surgery, I took 8 weeks off. My employer at the time allowed me to take the 12 week FMLA off, but I only took 8. My surgeon basically asked me how much time I wanted off and he filled out that when I brought him the disability paperwork.I am so glad I took all of that time so I could get used to my new life.I am in outside sales and needed the recoop time. I did get disability, but also got supplemented through my employer to make up the difference that disability does not pay.  Hope that helps.

BIG Hugs,
Lisa

I work at Western Dental, I'm considered a full time employee but I only work 88 hours a month, so part time. I got the FMLA packet from my employer, but I don't know what is the next step to do. I know I want to take a month off, so what do I do now?

Basically I told my employer about two weeks prioe to my surgery that I was having major surgery and would be out for 8 weeks after my surgery date. I filled out all of the paperwork with my employer for their end. They had also given me all of the paperwork needed for disability. My surgeon filled out that paperwork on my last appointment before surgery and I mailed it in.  Remember that you will not get any $$ from disability for the first week after surgery...so if you have sick or vacation time, you will want to use that.

BIG Hugs,
Lisa

Hi,   I just had surgery 2 days ago and am on FEMLA too. Just fill out all the parts you can (name, how long you plan to be off and anything else that is not for the doctor) and take it to the doc to finish filling out and sign. My HR people said they had to have the original back, so even though my doc was 75 miles away they could not fax it to my employer. I had them complete it when I went for surgery and my husband took it this morning and turned it in to my employer for me. I am an RDA, I worked in dental for 20 years and would help out up front when I could and learned dental billing. Now I work doing medical billing for Calif. Emergency Physicians. They have much better benefits then dental but I sure do miss the patient contact, I enjoyed being an RDA.  Good luck with your surgery.  Kim B

i am a high school teacher and was out for two weeks - Lap RNY - it was easy going back to work and I didn't bother with disability because I had plenty of sick days. Good luck! C h e e r s, gene

Hi Lyndsey, I have a desk job and I had Laproscopic RNY. I took 1.5 weeks off work. I went back to work on a Wed. so it would be a short first week. I also worked shorter days those 3 days but was back full swing the next week. I made a point to get up and walk around the office 5 minutes out of every hour and I often rested in my car on my lunch hour. Please keep in mind that everybody is different and recoup time varies greatly. I did not recieve disability as I was not off work long enough to qualify. Good luck to you Sue

Keep doing what you're doing, Keep getting what you're getting.

I took 5 weeks. I didn't get my energy bac****il after my third week. It also takes time to figure out your eating.

I'm an Art Director for three magazines, so my work weeks vary and are quite stress-filled due to deadlines.

Had a desk job, but took 6 weeks because I could :-) I was glad I did because my constipation was so bad, I couldn't even sit down (TMI?) I also realize now, I went through some major depression in the first weeks too. Taking that time off let me get my head (and butt) straight.) My surgeons office gave me all the paperwork I needed. I do electronic fabrication for a national laboratory and was off work 3 weeks.  I used my sick leave and didn't even bother with disability.  When I returned to work, my employer put a lifting restriction (nothing over 10 pounds) on me for 2 more weeks.
