I had an incident yesterday with Chicken,  I have been able to eat Chicken, previously, but yesterday it came back up.  This was my first experience in throwing up, since surgery.  6 weeks post op.  I am so afraid to eat.  I have not attempted to eat since then. (Yesterday at 1:00 p.m.)  I am so hungry.  Any suggestions????

Hi Shardon, I know quite a few people have had problems with chicken. My own surgeon doesn't suggest trying chicken until 6-12 months post-op. But you don't want to starve yourself. That just slows down the weightloss because your body will hold on to the fat reserves. Have some soup or cream of wheat/cream of rice. Try chicken in a few months and see what happens. Food is like russian roulette. Sometimes it stays down, sometimes it doesn't. Good luck hun.

Hello Kattitude: Thanks for the info.  I met with my surgeon yesterday and he suggested that I continue to eat and thought all was fine and that I come for my next visit in 3 months, Go Figure.   I guess I am own my own.  I will schedule to met with the RD and see what I need to do until September when I see my surgeon again.

Oh sweetie, been there done that! You probably ate it too fast or didn't chew good enough and that is worse than dumping I think!! I don't do chicken very well, but turkey meat is the only thing I've ever thrown up so I know how you feel.  Just take it easy for a bit, stick to really soft things until you feel up to it. I hope you've at least had protein drinks or something, that is a long time to go without anything. Cottage cheese, yogurt, some soup, something that will go down easy!! Just chew well and eat slow!! That is the hardest thing for me to learn!!  big understanding hugs, Becky

Hey Becky. I figured out that I did eat much too fast.  I let myself get too hungry.  I did go back to basics but I had a chicken hot dog yesterday, it was ok.  I just need to find out what works for me and stick to that.  When I met with my surgeon yesterday.  He stated that I drink with a straw and have diet soda over ice.  Did he go to the same class as the rest of the WL Surgeons?  I guess what I learned in 6 months of options classes and from OH, just went out of the window when I met Dr. Zane.  I know that he is a great surgeon, so I have to trust him.

Yes, we've all been there done that... don't be afraid to eat, but DO eat very slowly....chewing completely before swallowing.

I find that meat goes down easier when it is moist... like... a broth or sauce, or a gravy with it will help a lot... can you find a sugar free BBQ sauce to dip it in? It will help.

For now... a valuable lesson learned, yes? Slow down!

best wishes,

Lori

Hi Shardon Like the rest said - probably didn't chew enough or ate to fast...I have been super lucky and never gotten sick or thrown up or dumped...but do take it very easy and eat soft things - SLOWLY...and you have to eat.  I know its hard but I know first hand that it is worse NOT to eat - I tend to not eat enough sometimes and when I do my weight loss slows or I gain a lb or so....we MUST eat our 3 meals a day and a couple snacks to keep that metabolism going..... Hang in there and take it slow and easy.  You are not to far out from surgery and you just have to have patience....it will be ok....

Thanks Jean, I know that I am impatient.  I want it all now, be healed completely now and have lost all of my weight now.  But once again, I have to go through the process for my success.  I do thank God that the food did not get stuck that would have been a mess. Thanks for your advice regarding eating.  I have that problem, because I forget and put eating off until I complete a certain chore or assignment.  But my surgeon stated that I was doing good.

Leave chicken alone for a while. Things like this happen from time to time.  Even I have to throw up being 2 years out.  It just depends on the texture of the food, amount, etc. You're going to have to experience and explore different ways of cooking foods and most of all, be creative to ensure things are not too dry. Otherwise, you'll feel that brick inside your pouch. Anyhow, good luck with chicken and yes, you can try it again but I recommend in a few days.
