Hi, I have just a quick question.  Right now I am on the no cost medi-cal.  I was wondering if medi-cal covers the whole cost of the surgery.  My husbands aunt was on medi-cal (although I don't know if it was no cost) and she said that they will pay for all but 3,000 dollars.  There is no way I would be able to pay $3,000 for the surgery, but I am really looking into this because of how Terrible I feel.  So far i have not been to a doctor, but I know I qualify for the surgery with my BMI being 43.3.  Has anyone else had surgery with no cost medi-cal and did you have to pay anything out of pocket? I live in Northern California, and am considering the lap band surgery.  Thanks for you help all

Medi-Cal does cover weight loss surgery but they are few and far between......especially in Northern California. You'll find more Dr's here in southern Cali that will accept it.  Dr Milton Owens in Orange is one of the few here in  so cal that accepts it. I know this cuz I  have had a few aquaintances that did it there with their medi-cal and or medi-care.  You may have to come down here and check it out. It may be worth the travel.

Good luck in your search!

stanford does it with medi-cal but at the time i had it (4 years ago) the wait list was like 6 months long. its definately worth it to ask your dr and find out. you never know until you start asking the dr's and insurance folks etc.best wishes!
