Blue Shield Insurance?

Anyone have Blue Shield insurance in California?  Do they cover lap band surgery? I am close to getting a new job and they offer Blue Shield POS or PPO insurance coverage.  I currently have Blue Cross Blue Shield and understand it's very different. Thanks!

I have Blue Shield HMO in CA.  I think there are different plans but my RNY has been approved.  I had a choice of RNY or Lap Band so I am pretty sure they would have covered either.  You might call or check with Blue Shield online and see if you can get the information.

I also have Blue Shield HMO.  I didn't look into Lap Band - just RNY - but I was surprised at how quickly they approved my surgery.  We had had a problem with them over some prescription meds my husband was on, so I expected them to be a pain in the yin-yang - but they approved the RNY request immediately.  --  Carol

I have Blue Shield HMO as well.... was assigned a nurse case manager and she coordinated everything and then my surgery was approved lickety-split.  The only thing I didn't care for was no choice of docs.... it's who they contract with and that's it. If you don't like your surgeon or the hospital, you're out of luck.  

I have BS PPO.  They cover Lap band, RNY & DS.  They''re a  pain to deal with, but they cover the surgery!
