2 Kaiser Questions: Lap & Plastic Surgery
2 Kaiser Questions...
My co-worker is contemplating Kaiser for our health benefits but wasn't sure the success of Lap Band with Kaiser? Comments...?
Also, I had my own GB with Cedars back in March of 2006. I am contemplating Kaiser myself but wasn't sure what the status is as far as Plastic Surgery after weight loss surgery goes? Has anyone had it with Kaiser...?

Kaiser stresses that they do not cover plastic after surgery. If you want it from them, you have to pay for it out of pocket.
You may be able to work the medical need angle with them. I have heard of some success with that, but it has to be documented things like rashes, skin breakdown etc.
I haven't talked to the ps dept myself yet, because I'm still losing, but I hear that they do have good prices on their ps.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!
I have Kaiser and while i haven't had surgery yet, i did just finish the program. I know they are starting to approve other surgeries and not just the RNY. If the person completes the class and would prefer to have the lapband, then i know my region would refer them to the hospital that does the lap band. The surgeon might talk to her about the pros and cons of the lap band, but i know that they do approve it, it just isn't one the well known facts about Kaiser. Good luck in whatever you both chose.

Hello, I have Kaiser. I go to the South Bay Kaiser in Harbor City. They preform three types of wls there (lap band, rny, vsg). It depends on how over weight you are in which one you get. You have to attend a 6 month options class to have the surgery unless there is an emergency and they wave the class. I found the class helpful and it provided a lot of good information.
And as far as plastic surgery the first post I beleve is correct. In my options class they mentioned if you have rashes or other problems from the excess skin then take pictures and document the events and it should not be a problem.
I hope this helps you,
