Approved for Surgery but feeling blue

Finally approved for surgery after waiting 32 days for Aetna to make their decision.  I was thrilled that I was approved on the first submission.  Now I am feeling blue...why?  Because it may take 6-8 weeks before I get a surgery date. I feel as though this is never going to happen for me.  I've been going through this process since 11/07 and at every turn, I hit a locked door.  It's soooooooo depressing.  My mother and I were on this journey together.  She had her surgery on 4/29 and is on her way to a healthier life.  A part of me feels as if she has stolen my dream.  I know it's not true, she says everyday that wished she could trade places with me.  I have struggled with my weight all of my life and now there is this opportunity...a tool that is so close, yet still not within reach.

Good morning,

Congratulations you've been approved!!!!!

I believe everything happens for a reason and if it takes 6-8 weeks before you get a surgery date maybe that is because you need to get things in order.  Trust me that time will fly by.  Before you know it, your date will be here and you'll be saying "I can't believe how fast it went".  Just keep in mind life is full of locked doors and when a door is closed a window is open. You are sooooo close!!!  Keep you head up and just know your surgery date is just around the corner!!   You're in my prayers...

OH HON PLEASE DON'T FEEL DEPRESSED. IF YOU HAVE READ THROUGH SOME OF THE PROFILES HERE YOU WILL READ THAT SOME PEOPLE HAVE WAITED 3 YEARS AND JUMPED THROUGH HOOPS AND FOLLOWED EVERYTHING TO THE LETTER JUST TO GET DENNIED AND TO APPEAL 3 TIMES BEFORE GETTING THEIR APPROVAL.  YOU ARE THERE SWEETIE, YOU ARE THERE. YOU GOT YOUR APPROVAL AND TIME WILL FLY BY. BE THANKFUL FOR THAT APPORVAL. 6 TO 8 WEEKS IS NOTHING TO SOME, THEY WOULD HAVE GLADLY CHANGED PLACES WITH YOU. I KNOW YOUR EXCITED AND WITH GOOD REASON TO BE. IT'S THE START OF SOMETHING EXCITING AND A HEALTHY HAPPY NEW LIFE. YOUR GONNA GET THERE AND IT WILL BE THE BEST DAY.  BY WAITING FOR 6 TO 8 WEEKS YOUR MOM WILL BE BACK ON HER FEET AND STRONG ENOUGH TO HELP YOU. LOOK AT IT AS A GOOD THING. BELIEVE ME PLEASE IT'S SO WORTH THE WAIT. YOU WILL MAKE IT, I PROMISE AND RIGHT NOW JUST HELP MOM AND LEARN FROM HER AND BOOST HER EGO SO WHEN IT COMES  TO YOUR BIG DAY SHE WILL BE THERE FOR YOU.   OH AND REMEMEBER YOU SAID IT MAY TAKE 6 TO 8 WEEKS TO GET THE DATE NOT DEFINETLY WILL TAKE THAT LONG. TAKE CARE AND HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEK.   STAY POSITIVE YOU MADE IT THROUGH  THE HARDEST PART THEY SAID YES!

I know it seems like a long time, but like the others said, it will fly by. Just try to get excited by your mom's loss and know that soon it will be your turn. You will have soooo many years as a skinny person, and now you have part of your summer to take advantage of  root beer floats on hot days. My doctor always told me to have an attitude of gratitude; find a way to wait for the rainbow just a little longer. The pot of gold at its end is so worth the wait. We are all with you, nancy

Change those frowns to happy faces!  Even if 4 - 6 weeks out, look at how close you are vs. last November.  The approval is something to cheer about.  I can understand your feelings and I started last December.  As of last Friday, I have a date (6/12) and was so surprised it was so close.  I thought the earliest would be the end of June.  Maybe you will get the same kind of surprise.  I hope so!

Hang in there - the hardest part is over - the APPROVAL.  Like everyone else said, everything happens for a reason and that 6-8 week wait will definitely fly by.  We are all here for you.  Just be there for your mom and enjoy her success with her and before you know it she will be helping you.... Congrats on your approval and you will be a loser before you know it.

Hi there, My suggestion is that you focus on what this feeling of hope and anticipation feels like. Remember how much you want it. If things get tough post op, reflect back on this day for motivation! I know the waiting is hard, but I promise it will soon seem like a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of your healthy life! Take care, Rachel

Thank you for everyone for you kind words and motivation.  You are all right...the approval is the hardest part and I was approved on the first attempt so I should be thrilled about that.  As for my mom, t is a blessing that she went first.  One of you mentioned that she will be all recovered and ready to help me when I have my surgery.  I never thought of that.  Everything happens for a reason and I will take it one day at time.  And maybe it won't take 6-8 weeks.  Thanks again OH members for you support.  I feel much better now.

Well, better to be depressed because of whatever you see as a reason for the depression - than to be depressed because you werent approved at all. You were approved!!! I still remember that day, I read and reread and couldnt believe it! You need to reread your own words and find the 'wrong info" in there. EVERY door wasnt locked... the approval was granted...that lock is UNlocked... and your surgery date is SO CLOSE ..... if you are feeling blue ...just feel blue and move forward. There will be plenty of blue days AFTER the surgery....just cuz life is a difficult journey. So when the blue days come...either today or next year or 10 years from now...you just do the best you can to move on. And don't you rain on your mama's parade .... go tell her how happy you are FOR HER!!! After all, now your mother will live longer, you need to be thinking of your mom's happiness...right?

Whenever I feel blue blue blue I figure if I cant make myself happy- go do something for someone else to make THEM happy.
