I'm new to OH but have been reading and following many posts and other wls information.  This morning my surgery date was scheduled at UCSF - the big day is June 12th!!!  I'm thrilled and now starting a liquid diet and have my pre-op on June 9th. Any RNY alumni who care to offer support and possibly be an "angel", please let me know.

I have a question for you? How long did it take you from the beginning to get your date. I am scheduled for my informational seminar June 19, 2008.

Hi Sue,

It certainly wasn't quick.  I went to my orientation early last December.  Following the orientation I had my first appointment with the surgeon.  He gave me and my PCP a rather long list of tests/procedures/consultations that needed to be completed before a follow-up appointment and decision about the surgery.  The reason it took so long was due to the length of time it took for me to get two of the appointments (colonoscopy/gastroscopy and mental health evaluation).  The approvals for the all the tests only took a few weeks but the appointment dates were as far out as two months (mental health eval).  Once all the results were in to the surgeon, my follow-up appointment was within two weeks and after that it took two weeks to get the surgery date.

I hope this helps.

Sue - I'm fron Sacramento and here's my timeline:  It was 41 days from requesting PCP put in for a referral request to see Dr. Waldrep til I was given a surgery date!  Dr. Waldrep's office submitted my paperwork to Healthnet last Friday and I was approved on Wednesday.  It totally rocks and how quick this process was and how easy.  No six month diet, etc. Do you have to go to a specific bariatric group here in the area?  Good Luck.    April

Lots of support from me to you, Kerby... congrats on the date...soon!

I'm not in your area, but there are many on the Cali board who are...I'm sure someone will step up and be your angel up there in the NorCal area...

Advice: read people's profiles, especially those who are many years out from surgery. There is much wisdom to be gained from the experience of others for those who take the time to read and absorb it all!

God bless you as you begin this journey of re-gaining your health and control over your life!

Wow, thanks to all of you who have replied with support and suggestions.  This is all very helpful as I'm full with a mixture of emotions.  I know the next 2 1/2 weeks will go by very quickly.

Congratuations on all of your hard work as I see your progress on this fantastic journey.
