Inland Empire Psych Referrals??

Hi - I have been told by my PCP to get the psych eval. done, but she had no suggestions for me on who to see. I want to make sure that I get the eval done by someone who is not ANTI WLS.

My concern is based on a past experience with a psychologist who was seeing my husband and me for some counseling (it wasn't a big deal) but I mentioned I was considering WLS and he let me have it with both barrels. So I'd rather not go through that again! (it was a lot of the "you should try harder" or "you have enough self-esteem to be motivated" crap.)

I am considering calling some of the WLS practices locally to ask if they have someone they know, but I thought before I did that, I would ask here.

I'm open to someone in Corona, Ontario, Riverside etc.

I will have to cross-reference them with my insurance to make sure they are a contracted provider.

Thanks in advance for your help and guidance!

Your surgeon may have someone they work with as one option. A second one would be  a psychyo0logist within your insurance group.  These professionals should be impartial in regards to discussing WLS.  The surgeon would most assuredly have a psychologist he works with that looks favorable on WLS.  I used my psychologist that prescribed my anti depressants.  He had some history with me, and I had the session, and he wrote a letter and faxed it to my surgeon. See that's my problem: my surgeon isn't local. I was thinking of calling some local drs (like Suh) and finding out if they had any suggestions, but didn't want to bother them since I'm not their patient.

The medical group I belong to has a psych that I have met and absolutely disliked. He was referred to me to evaluate my daughter (who was 5 at the time) for ADHD. After we scheduled the appointment months in advance, sat in the office for 45 minutes because he was late, he finally tells us, I don't do pediatrics. I was livid - especially because I had given my daughters age and DX code over the phone to his staff when scheduled. He didn't even apologize.

Anyway, I don't want to go to him, so I am trying to find qualified people through other's experience.

sorry-- I didn't see the part about your surgeon not being local!  I am sure you'll get a good answer on this board!

My pcp referred me to a surgeon---and the surgeon refered me to both the Psychologist and the nutritionist----so BOTH were familiar with WLS patients; and not anti -WLS. Best of luck, Lori

I would definitely suggest checking with Dr. Suh's office.  The Dr. he referred me to had also had the surgery done & was very happy with it.  I'm sorry that I don't remember her name. Lidia
