So I went to a WL seminar last night and the doc said you still need to count your caleries... now this is why I have failed diets such as Weigh****chers..I hate measuring food etc. I mean when Im trying to get my kid off to school and then I have to measure and weight my food its so time consuming. So my question after weight loss surgery do you find it easier to count and weight your food?

it is the same to me, only this is harder work than any diet I have ever been on. Diets are sort term things, this is a change of lifestyle for the rest of my life. You will have to do things you don't like, just part of the program....it's not easy, don't think it is, if you are looking for easy, look else where.

Hi Karen!

Sadly.. yes.. either formally (works well) or informally (not so well becuase alot of us are ill informed or delusional about how many calories things have in them!) ..counting calories is a useful tool in keeping the weight off.  The good news is that after awhile I was able to count them in my head. I *know* that egg is 70 cal.. and I know the cheese stick is 80... especially when you eat the same kinds of things everyday whic I really try to because it keeps me from overeating. Like solid proteins and veggies. I knwo it sounds like a PITA, but once you lose the weight, you will feel great, look great, &you will be amazed at how much you will WANT to do what is necessary to keep it off. And if you choose not to, you willbe amazed at much you will be wishing you had.. Hope that helps!

If you ask 100 different doctors, you get 100 different answers that's for sure. My doctor has us count grams of protein and grams of carbs. His rule of thumb for weight loss is a 2 to 1 ratio of protein to carbs. So, depending on my protein intake I keep my carbs to half or lower to lose.   I agree with Rita, whether counting calories or carbs, after awhile it just becomes a natural thing in your head.   Lauren
