Ouestion Please - Didn't dump on sweets???
I have a quick question. I am 8 weeks out and had a small piece of cake for Cinco de Mayo. I didn't dump. I have also had lemonaide in the past and didn't dump on that either. I wanted to know if that is a good think or a bad one? It seems that I can have regular sugar and it doesn't effect me in a bad way. Will this change later on? If I can tolerate sugar, should I still avoid it? Or could that mean something failed with my surgery? I know it sounds crazy but this is all confusing to me at this point. Any help with these questions would be appreciated.
Val

Hi! I'm 4 years out, and have always been able to tolerate small to moderate amounts of sugar. How much I can handle is dependant on how many other carbs I've in the day.
Its not good or bad. It is what it is. For me, its been a challenge because I'm a food addict. But YES avoid it. Focus on treating your body like a temple. Eat for sustinance and less for pleasure. This may help you avoid some of my pitfalls.
Wishing you well,
Rachel
It's a bad thing! I'm 3 years out (5/2/) and learned very early on that sugar wasn't necessarily my enemy... unfortunately, I really like sugar and since I don't dump on it and didn't force myself to stay away from it , it's now one of my biggest struggles!
Nothing failed with your surgery, but to get the most of your tool follow the rules... for me sugar was a huge pandora's box and I can't seem to close it up!

I found out after a few months I could handle some sweets. One of the problems is they are all around us. The longer you can avoid this area, the better off you'll be. Sugar is what got us into trouble to begin with!! It's like running with the Devil...Your going to get burned. Be careful...From someone who has gained 15 pounds since hitting his goal (because of sugar). Brian
Val,
I am one of those that is very sensitive to sugar. I am 3.5 years out and dump on things I have had sugar a couple of times once knowingly and second to something I did not realize that something had sugar in. Aside from all of that once again I am very sensitive. More than likely you may not be one that is sensitive to it. I wish that everyone could dump significantly one time or another to see what it feels like and never want to experience it again.
You have not failed with your surgery about 10-20% do not experience this.
I recommend that you stay away and as Gene says do not open Pandora's box and temp yourself with the devil. It is an evil that you cannot manage and if you are wondering this then you should know what your anwer is. STAY AWAY FROM IT. DO NOT TEMPT YOURSELF. These are things that made us fat in the first place. I find that I have no control over things like this so I need to stay away. I wanted a chocolate so bad the other day that I bought a bag of sugar free chocolate for 150.00. I took one out and gave the rest to the clerk at the store.
Good Luck
Liz
I have no idea if I dum*****t on suger, because I stay away from it. I look at it as I DO DUMP. That way I stay away from it. To this day, the only candy or sweet that I have had was one little tossie roll at xmiss, and I got sick as a dog. Good enought for me to stay away.
You are only 8 weeks out you should be running from that stuff. Don't start "cheating" now, that is what got you where you are. Follow the rules as your doctor has set for you.
AVOID!!!!!! at all cost
Just my 2 cent

Thank you all for your responses. You are right. I will RUN from the sweets and clean up my act. God bless you all in this journey.

Hi Val, I"m going to echo what everyone else has said and tell you not to go down that road. I also discovered at about 2 months out that I didn't dump on sugar, and 3 other people I know who had this same surgery don't either. The only thing "sugar wise" that makes me feel absolutely blechy is ice cream. I don't have any idea why, but I completely steer clear of it now. I have to look at sugar as crack me for me. As one of the previous people said, treat your body like a temple and only put good stuff in you. xo I wish you the best. Kim
