I had open WLS. I now have a huge sliding hernia down my incision line... I go tomorrow for a consult, but my insurance courier has made it clear that if it is not staying "stuck" out the size of a lemon, it is not covered to be repaired... Has anyone heard of that? I told them it is PAINFUL, it does bulge out something terrible, but I am able to pu**** back in, although it painful and wakes me up and makes for a heck of a time feeling half way decent throughout the day. Has anyone had a hernia at the incision site like this? How did they repair it? Or did they? I will go to bat to get this fixed, I will not be in pain like this forever, much less I have insurnace...wth? Any insite???

I don't know why they would expect it to "stay out",  If they do deny the surgery, you have the right to appeal their decision and having worked for a large insurance company before, I know if people go to the trouble of appealing something and give documentation from a doctor, generally the denial is overturned. My husband had the open RNY almost two years ago and ended up with a hernia.  It REALLY stuck out, but he was able to pu**** back in all the time.  It always came back out though.  They repaired it last Friday and since they were there anyway, they took off 11 pounds of excess skin.  We were lucky. Our insurance covered it with no problems.

Hi Julie.. Yup.. that exactly how mine is. I have TriWest (military) insurance and they approved repair, no problem at all.  I havent had it done yet for a couple of reasons but the size didnt seem to be an issue. What *was* an issue was that it bothered me when I worked out and they didnt want me to stop. Maybe that can be a factor in your appeal. They *are* painful.. this past weekend it was particularly bad. And sometimes when I pu**** back in, it stays.. and sometimes not... its a bummer for sure... good luck to you...

Jules I sure hope that it is big enough to get it fixed! How are you otherwise? Miss seeing you around! Bounce

Got back from the surgeon's this morning. Surgery is the only way to fix the problem. The surgeon said it is a incision hernia and it must be repaired. She will do a non tension repair and hope it solves the problem. They will go through the same incision, hence I will be down for 2 weeks. They will do it on a Monday, so I can try my hardest to work the weekend. I hate to take time off work without it being time for us to do something with the girls. So now I wait for the paper work process of trying to make sure the insurance approves it... I am not upset nor nervous about the process, I am hoping it will take care of the problem and can make for a healthier, happy Mama!!! And No, she won't take off any of this skin, I asked, begged and pleaded, after listening to different things from her, she said "I will take off as much as I need to for the surgery"... I said ok give me a wink, insure me it will be a tad more...lol
