Did anyone have to take potassium after surgery? My Dr. prescribed some for me, the pharmacy gave my husband a bottle of OTC Caltrate! As far as I can see from the label on the bottle it does not contain any potassium. I am so confused! Anyone run across this one? And why am I having to take potassium? The last thing I want to do is swallow more pills! Thanks in advance for your help!

Potassium is vital for your heart.  Too little or too much of it can be bad.  I have always had my potassium prescribed.  They have this powder you can put in water or juice.  Tastes NASTY but the pills are HUGE.  I don't have trouble with stuff like that, but I do have problems swallowing those pills. Call you doc and have him prescribe the powder.  You will be much, much happier. Good luck!!!! Jillie xo xo ox

I have had to take prescription potassium since my WLS. I started with K-tabs but got switched to Urocit-K after my kidney stone surgeries.  The pills are pretty big but I can take them just fine. They are no bigger than my calcium pills. I was taking 3 diabetes and 1 blood pressure pill so I am fine with only taking 1 prescription of potassium now. I think someone confused calcium with potassium. I would check with your doctor to be sure what you are supposed to be3 taking. Michelle

Just a side bar...Fruits and vegetables high is potassium: banana, orange, tomato, raisins, spinach.  I try and eat spinach every day for the iron and potasium.  I buy the frozen kind and just pop it in the microwave for 2 minutes...add some salt.  Simple boring eats, but great for just starting out...Alot of fiber too.  Brian
