Hi I was reading that you lose a lot of hair after the weight loss surgery. I was wondering what everyones experience has been with this?

Everyone's experience after surgery will be a little different.

I didn't lose any hair.  I began taking Biotin before I had surgery and still take it everyday. I've also been pretty good and meeting or exceeding my protein on a daily basis, I know that helped a lot too.

Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired."

I was very lucky, when I had my last supper celebration I got about 4 jars of Biotin from different OHers.  I think I'm only into my 2nd jar now.  You can try picking some up at Vitamin Shoppe or even Target.

I didnt notice it until it started to grow back.  Now I have short areas in different places on my head that only I notice.  I asked my hair person if maybe I was frying my hair with the blowdryer and she said no its regrowth. So I guess I lost hair. Holly

Hi there. I too started taking Biotin just before surgery and my hair loss was very little. I also kept my protein level up. I still to this day take Biotin I take 5000mcg's a day that's one pill and I get it from Walmart Rexall super potency and it comes 120 to a bottle. I think it was just a couple of $$$ not expensive at all. I believe any brand Biotin will do the same thing for you. I just looked for the best deal for my money. Now mind you I have very fine hair and it was not growing at all. it would break off. After surgery I lost a little but not enough to say so but when my hair came in it was thicker and nicer then before and it now grows with out breaking and another thing my own nails grown like weeds and are much stronger then before. I think Biotin is good weather you have the surgery or not. My 32 year old daughter and my 38 year old son have started taking it and there is a very noticable improvement in there hair and nails. take care and have a wonderful week.

Ditto to everything Monica P. said... I never had the hair loss problem, either and feel I owe it to the Biotin, water, and good eating.

I think I'm going to run out and buy some biotin today.  I'm three months out and have lost 60 pounds, but I've noticed a lot of my hair on my cloths and I'm a bit concerned.  I was very sick and had trouble keeping things down for the first two and a half months, so I've only been getting in my protein the past two weeks.  I don't want to lose my hair, so I'm really working hard to get proper nutrition and water now.

I started taking biotin 8 months pre op...but at 6 months post op my hair was falling out..but not like wildly..just enough to fill my hands when rinsing out the conditioner... nobody else noticed and it stopped falling out by 9 months post op..I had a ton of hair to start with so it didnt really bother me.. everyone is different though.. but it seems for all of us that it fell out on it came back.
