Oh Lu I feel your pain. I have had to go through this with my dogs. 11 dogs and 3 cats and  one is just as difficult as the other. I put my trust and faith in the vet to know when the time was right. He always told me that if they can't take care of their daily functions and are in pain to let them go. My last girl was 18 year old austrailian sheapard. They said she must have been very happy and extremly well taken care of as they rarely live that long.  You will know if Max's time has come, you will want to do the right thing for him. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and Max.   Take care Lu. MUCH LOVE (((HUGS)))   JODI

I am a total doggie lover.  I have had to put down 4 dogs in my lifetime and it never gets easier.  When the time came, I did it for them for the lifetime of love and affection that they gave me, and allowed them to go peacefully instead of suffer.  It will NOT be easy, and it will take time to heal.  I so wish dogs lived as long as we did and didn't have to go through this.  Please just take peace in the time that you had with Max and go out and get another dog when you are ready.  A new one will fill the void, tho not replace it. Love U lots, Diane

Oh, sweetie..I am sorry you and Max are going through this. It's just so hard when your pup is suffering. I pray that the vet has some good news for you both today. Spoiling my furry guy a little extra today in honor of Max. D2K

I am so sorry you are hurting.  Decisions can be h3ll to make.  I have had to do it twice in the last couple of years.  You and Max will know when the time is right.  Just look into his eyes and he will tell you when.  We are taking my Capone, who I cremated, to my sisters 40 acre property in Washington this week.  His ashes will be scattered with Bandit's.  You have given Max some wonderful years he would not have had if not for you and your love.  Crying now and cannot see, so I gotta go. Sending tons of peace and love your way.

Lulu, I've gone through this several times, too.  I lost three dogs within 9 months, and every single one of them was hard.  The thing that got me through was the poem my vet sent to me each time an animal had to be put down.

The Rainbow Bridge There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth.  It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors.  Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys, with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place.  There is always food and water and warm spring weather.  Old and frail animals are young again.  Those who are maimed are made whole.  They play all day with each other. There is only one thing missing.  They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth.  So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up!  The nose twitches!  The ears are up!  The eyes are staring!  And this one suddenly runs from the group! You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace.  Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

When Archie was having congestive heart failure, I listened to his labored breathing that last night and planned a memorial quilt of the rainbow bridge.  I started working on it after we got home from the vet, and it really helped me cope.  My love goes out to you and Max both. - Carol

Thank you for the poem.

Max has cangestive heart failure also. His breathing is bad, and as the days get hotter, his breathing gets harder.

I didn't keep my appointment with the vet. I fear what he is going to tell me.

Chicken poop. yes I know.
