Our health insurance doesn't cover for WLS. Is there some kind of financing I can check into for this specifically? I know they have it for cosmetic surgery...how do I go about finding out about WLS financing? I don't want to dip into our savings because it is very low due to being out of work for 2 years. Any ideas?? Thanks, GO

Why don't you try getting a loan at a bank or somewhere like that.  I do not know of anyone that pays for an elective surgery. Good luck, Diane

If you already have a Surgeon his Billing/Insurance person will probably be able to tell you which finance companies to call or check online. Surgeons work with Some medical financing companies but not with all of them. .. I thought I could use Capitol Ones Medical Financing program but my surgeons office said they didn't take Capitol one.. so it sounds like the surgeon has to be signed up to accept what ever finance company your going to use.. unless you take out a line of credit or personal loan. THey Refered me To RelianceMedicalFinancing.com. . It took a few days but they approved my loan and sent a check to my Surgeon. If you Don't have a surgeon yet.. many of the Medical Financing companies like Reliance, CareCredit.com and MyMedicalLoan.com all have a "Find a Surgeon" search area for the proceedure you want.  Hope this helps.. Hey GO, I'm sorry. It's awful when you have decided to make a healthy change and there are roadbloacks.

A few thoughts... Have you asked your HR department if an additional rider to cover the surgery can be purchased?

Is the exclusion (under no cir****tances or only "if deemed medically necessary") read your policy and look for loop holes like that.

Can you get on a spouses or family member's policy?

There is always the self pay route: Here's a few links to finance companies

Also I had some insurance issues too and went to Ensenada, Mexico for my surgery so I can relate. Going out of the country is not for everyone but it was the best gift I ever gave myself. I'd be happy to share my experience (or check out my blog link below for my story)

Best of luck to you. Keep us up on your progress! ~Michelle

Hi All, Thanks to everyone *****sponded - it's much appreciated!! I have no surgeon or physician lined up. I will be insured under my husbands policy with a new employer. There are no loop holes as the exclusion says "medical or non medical surgery or weightloss treatment"...they had to cover all their bases. So, the new insurance kicks in next week and I'm checking into the network of doctors ...I have plenty of co-morbids to be concerned about.  Eggface, you were brave to go to out of the country to have it done, yes, I'd like to know more about it. I will check into the information everyone has provided to me and try to find out how to go about it. I have not decided whether or not WLS is for me but want to know all of my options. In the meantime getting to know people here has been a source of encouragement so far.  Thanks, ~GO.
