I actually went with my sister to her Pre-op appointment and he saw her.  We also met him when he came before surgery.   I also had family members who have had surgery by him and also I have known people who have had WLS by him. I have my pre-op on Monday so hopefully I will get to see him but he is really nice and takes his time and if you have any questions he will answer them.  Thank you for the speedy recovery wishes.. I am so excited and nervous at the same time.... Smiles, Amber

It is very common to have such fear and actually if you did not, I would be more concerned.

Only you can make the choice. Dr. Coates from what I have heard is a great surgeon. Also do you want to live to see your grandson grown? You stand of better chance of not seeing that happen without surgery. On 60 minutes last week the doc said that it is one surgery that has even less risk than gallbladder surgery.

Don't let anyone pressure you into this surgery because life after wls is a real committment to take super serious!

Good luck to you! Bounce

No one can tell you what to do thats for sure.  I had surgery 3 weeks ago from Dr. Coates.  He is a wonderful surgeon.  I had no complications...other than being very very tired...which I still am.  Health wise though and recovery I had no problems.  Good luck in whatever you decide!!

Tiff92, Thank you so much for responding.  It's great to hear from others that have had Dr. Coates.  I only met Dr. Corin at the seminar....so...it's kinda hard unless you've met the doctor to feel comfortable. I'll keep you in my prayers that your tiredness will go away and you will be energized with your success!

Dr Coates was my surgeon. I think he is wonderful. I have had no serious problems. I am a single mom of 3 growing boys. I had decided to have surgery in order to life longer and healthier. I am 5 years out now and in 2 weeks I will be taking the physical test for the local police department. So for me the risk was worth it. Everything we do daily can be a risk. So bottom line only you will know if this is the right  route for you and your grandson.

Good Morning!  Dr. Coates was my surgeon also. I am almost 4 years out. (June 8th, 2004).  I met him before they put me under in the operating room. No worries.....he's an awesome surgeon!! Just really busy. On a more personal note.....I also hear from some locals, that he is a happy family man, with several grown children and grand children and lives in the Modesto area.  As for me.....I have no complications, other than some reactive hypoglycemia and some dumping if I eat something I know I shouldn't!!! Bad me.... Anyway, I lost 100 lbs, had the dreaded 15 lb bounce back, (I went too low and really did look too thin...) and have maintained since.  Would I do it again??? Absolutely!! And I wouldn't want any one to touch me except Dr. Coates!  I've also done the "before and after" at his seminar once. It was a blast!   It's a personal thing, whether or not to go for it, but you could not be in better hands!!   Take care and have a great Sunday!! It is such a beautiful day!!

Thank you Lyn for responding.  It is good to hear from people that have had Dr. Coates as their surgeon.  I've only had one negative response, but the person indicated there was a support group that had some very strong (negative) opinions about Dr. Coates.  I guess you can't please everyone.

Thanks again!
