Very Afraid

I'm considering GB by Dr. Patrick Coates in Modesto, Ca.  Anyone familiar.  I'm really afraid to have the surgery.  I'm raising my 6 year old grandson and I'm afraid of complications (or worse!!). How do you decide the risks are worth it. Afraid in Motown.

I lost a very good friend to the surgery.  He had pre existing problems with blood clots prior, but it stopped me from having surgery for man a years.  But that was him and I am me, and I was not going to die from this surgery.  What I would have died from is the diabetes, the high blood pressure and the bad cholestrol I had.  Today I am healthy, and very happy and so sorry I waited to have surgery now.  The chances that were 1 in 100 of dying from this surgery is now up to 1 in 1000.    You need to decide which is more important to you, living unhealthy continuing the way you are, or take the chance of having a surgery that literally saves lives.  I have not regretted doing this once.  Ok maybe once when I was puking but other than that, no way in my life would I ever have lost 160 lbs,  I still have more to go, nor would I be this happy.   Good luck in whatever decision you make.  There are a number of people in the Modesto area that are on here too, hopefully someone will read your post. Diane P.S.  I was 57 when I had my surgery.

If you are like many of us on here, we where going to die if we DIDN'T have the surgery. The complications are different with everyone.  But the complication of being obesit are just as bad. I made the choice to have the surgery to live. But everyones choice and reasons are "to each there own" You need to find you reason and force on it. Maybe its that 6 y/o running under foot all the time.

He is definately a deciding factor either way.  How are you doing 3 years out?

Thank you for responding.

dear "no excuses"...

this is something we all must face: our fears...

After much investigation into my surgical group..the surgery itself...and talking with people who were from 1-5 years post-op, I decided to dive in.

For me, it was the right decision. For me, all has been picture perfect. I pray that God will guide your heart to the right decision for you, too!

Hello... My sister had surgery on Feb 21st and I am having it May 1st and our surgeon is Dr. Coates.  He is wonderful.  We both had thought about having the surgery for a long time but then finally came to the realization no matter how hard we try we needed help to lose weight.  I am a single mother but knew that I had God on my side.  You will know when you are ready.  Then the benefits will out weigh the risks.. Smiles, Amber

Amber,

How do you get to meet the doctor.  On their website and at the seminar it indicates you don't see them before surgery.  How do you get to see them or decide to let someone cut you open that you've never met.

Thank you so much for responding!  I will be praying for you and that you have a speedy recovery!
