Military moving to San Diego!!!

Hi all, I am a RI board member but I am moving to San Diego in July.  I would love to check out this board from time to time and get some advice.  I am 5 months post op so I will need to get all settled in with a Dr. as soon as I get there.  We are Navy, so I assume Balboa is where I will go.  Does anyone know about the Doctors there?  Anything I need to know.  We will be living in Eastlake, does anyone live near there?  Would love to have a friend when I get to SD. Welcome to California (almost!)     I'm up north from you, but am often jealous at how active the SD and southern Cali community is!  There are lots of good folks in your new neck of the woods. Best of luck with your move and I am betting you will love it!  San Diego is beautiful!

Hi Jenn,  Welcome to the Cali board!!  The San Diego peeps are some of the finest, sweetest, kindest...blah blah blah (LOL) people you will meet!  Nikki S. puts together a monthly luncheon for all of you folks to get together and hang out.  I try to make them when i am down there.  (I am from San Diego originally and now we are stationed in the Central Valley of Cali~ NAS Lemoore).  Anyway...Balboa does have a bariatric program now, some of the girls down there can give you more info on that as I had my surgery by a civilian doc at Alvarado hospital in San Diego.  The RNY was still a new procedure back when I wanted it and Balboa only did open versus lap. Anywho- not too familiar with the Eastlake area as I grew up in the eastern part of SD County.  But, I do have friends that are down that way and enjoy living there. I wish you all the luck with your move.  That is quite a haul for you guys.  If you dont mind me asking, what does your hubby do?  Mine is a Hospital Corpsman- worked many years at Balboa.  If you have any other questions about the area, please feel free to ask me.  And I am sure that more of the San Diego beauties will be piping in shortly (I think some have left or are getting ready to leave on a cruise, though). Again, welcome and good luck with everything.  You will LOVE San Diego.  We will probably be down there around that timeframe and maybe we will get the chance to meet up. Take care!

San Diegan here! I don't live in that part of the city, but I live more north inland. You definitely have to come to one of our lunches, they are a blast!!! I can't help you with the doctors or anything, but I hope you love it here and we will welcome you with open arms!!!      big hugs, Becky

I am very jealous you are going on a cruise.  We went a year ago, and I am dying to go back.  Are you leaving from SD.  Is it cheaper to go from there?  WE want to plan one once we get all settled in. Jen

Hi Jen and Welcome to the Ca board. You have found a wonderful group of people here. As for San Diego, I am East County, but work near Eastlake. I organize a lunch just about every month for us to get together, have some fun and support each other. Of course there are other get togethers by people all the time down here. Sorry I cant tell you anything about the Balboa program, but I know we have some lurkers that are military, hopefully they will respond. Hope to see you at a lunch once you move here!!!

Welcome to San Diego!  I'm on the West end of Chula Vista - you'll be in the new East end . . . but not far.  I don't know anything about Balboa so I can't help you there - but I'm sure someone will pipe in here about it.  If you have any questions about the area, let me know - if I don't know .. . I'll try and find out.  I do most my shopping in Eastlake .. . WalMart, Trader Joe's, Henry's, and entire new mall.  You'll love the area.  Keep us posted on your plans!  See you soon. Chris
