Hi all, I just joined today. I would like to know If anyone has gone through Kaiser in Orange County, CA and who was your referring Primary Physician? The one I have says he doesn't believe in Gasteric Bypass. I have been wanting this done for 7 years. I want to find a PP who will back me in the surgery. Thanks, Diane D.

Hi Jinkers, I am happy to have someone along side of me. I hope your sister will find a PCP soon that will help her out. I told mine that I have tried everything in the last 25 years. I just can't wait any longer. I feel the excess weight I have been carrying around since my first daughter was born contributed significantly to the break up of my marriage. The weight has caused me to feel less than everyone who is at a normal weight. I have been trying to find a job that I can physically do and no one will hire me. If it weren't for the spousal support, I would be on the streets. My PCP doesn't think my weight has anything to do with my employment status. What does he know? He is a skinny Vietnamese who has never weighed more than 130 pounds in his life!

HI, I HAVE KAISER ALSO.  I GO TO DR DANIELS IN LA PALMA. DE ESTEBAN IS THE DR YOU GET REFERRED TO FOR BARIATRIC "STUFF".  HE IS AT THE EUCLID/ANAHEIM OFFICE.  I BELIEVE HE SEES REGULAR (NON-BARIATRIC) PATIENTS AS WELL. GOOD LUCK, STEPHANIE

Kaiser ssf has its own dept.  A lot of people come down from the sacramento area in the beginning and then the once finished with some of the classes the monthly mandatory sat meetings are held in sac and sf.  the pre surgery meetings are at 1:30  and post at 9:30.  Mandatory for 1 year in order to help with weightloss.  I think Richmonds monthly meeting is during the week at night. ~Ann~

I have Kaiser and use the Riverside facility. My PCP, a Dr. Ritchie (last I heard is not taking new patients as he has a large number of people he sees) saw no problem in referring me to have RNY. I met the requirements, and that was his only concern.

My PCP was really nice she said the one requirement was a 10% loss prior to surgery. I know one person who had Kaiser Fremont and she did not have a set amount of time to wait for surgery just loose the 10% (after all the tests) then they set her date. I guess I will see what Richmond does it seems they are all differant. Thanks for sharing your info I REALLY appreciate it. Kristi

It's weird, all the Kaisers have different policies. Kaiser Richmond had a 6 month supervised diet or you could take the 14 week educational class on the subject, which was offered at my local Kaiser hospital.  The weight loss was only a guideline, I had to lose more than 10%, some people had to lose less.  You won't know for sure until you meet the surgeon, and he will give you the weight loss goal. Additionally Kaiser Richmond would only count the weigh ins at their facility,  Weight at your PCP or any other location didn't count.  The screwed up part of that is every time I weighed in at Richmond, it was on a different scale.  So much for consistancy huh. I really liked the 14 week class.  Initially I was very resistant to it, but I came to look forward to going, and having that in person support.  14 weeks may have been a little long for the amount of info they shared, but all in all it was good.
