I had the Gastiric RNY (Lap), and I have been out of surgery for 5 days now. I am currently on a clear liquid diet. My question to anyone that would like to answer: Did you guys stay on the Liquid Diet for two weeks? Or Did you go to the next stage which would be pureed foods or did you continue the 2 week liquid diet?  I am so tired of the liquids, I need to eat something different!!

I recommend following your Dr.'s protocol. If he says 2 weeks liquid, then you should 2 weeks liquid. Your pouch is brand new and I wouldn't want to jeapardize healing. JMHO Sue

Hi Sue! I really don't want to jepardize the healing of my new pouch. I was just hoping that maybe I will be able to go to the next stage sooner. But I definately am going to follow doctors orders. Thanks for the advice. Rosa

There is a reason that you are on a liquid diet.  You just had major surgery where all of the places that you eat food goes.  It needs time to heal.  So just stay with what the doctor says, you will make it, all of us had to do this.  Get some sugar free popcicles and chew on those for awhile, that really helped me alot.  But do what the doc ordered.

I, too, recommend doing what your doctor told you, but I feel for you!  I only had to stay on the liquid diet for 1 week, but I was hungry and miserable!  I remember watching Survivor and totally relating to them!  I would watch "You Are What You Eat", and when they show the table overflowing with whatever the people used to eat (all bad stuff that's supposed to look gross), I was so jealous!   Hang in there, it will be over before you know it!  That first bite of cottage cheese (or whatever you choose to eat) will be heaven!  Good luck!

I am with everyone else who posted about following your doctors protocal. If you are thinking about pushing the envelope this soon, then maybe you were not fully prepared to have the surgery in the first place.

Rearranging your body is serious and you should relate your new pouch to a baby who is just starting to eat...first milk, then soft foods.

WLS and life afterwards is big committment to a new lifestyle. If you follow your doctors protocal you will be successful. As you get further and further out, you are going to have to be even more vigilant in how you balance your food to maintain your weight. WLS is not a quick fix....so don't try and push the envelope. We have all been there and we feel for you....just try and find something else to do to take your mind off the hunger and the cravings (btw cravings usually do not last more than approx 20 secs).

Good luck to you and remember the seriousness of what you put your body through!

Hi Rosa, I feel confident in replying back, as we both had the same awesome surgeon!  Dr T is terrific.  Has he cracked a smile yet? (he will) LOL  Anyhow, I know exactly how you feel, I was the same way.  I went back for my 1 week post op visit, and he told me to stay on "clears" for one more week and I wanted to .  He cleared me for soft foods once I'd been 2 weeks post op.  Remember that sugar free popsicles qualifies as clear....or jello, but I didn't like the taste of jello post op, still don't.  It must be s/f too....You should be going in to see him shortly for your one week post op, right?  Take good care, and maybe I'll see you in the waiting room sometime!  xo  Kim

Dr. Tanaka is a great surgon I agree. He has done his homework. He smiled a little with me! At first he was kinda serious but during my hospital stay he acutally was smiley and he laughed to. But then again I am a character myself so I can make almost anyone laugh. It  is so hard being on the liquids but i know i can do it. I what just hoping that maybe on my doctor visit on wed he will let me start on some food i can chew. I have been depressed today and not wanting to go anywhere. I all I did to day was sleep and walk a little. I went to my sister in laws and then came home and layed down again. I am even making my parents sad, they don't like to see me like that. I hope tommorrow is a better day. Yeah, Maybe we will run into eat other some day! Thanks for your advice!

Hang in there Rosa...try and get out and walk and take your mind off the clears.  I guarantee when you start seeing the scale moving down, it will be worth it.  Don't forget to drink water, sip it though...and walk, they're both very important!  The time will go by and pretty soon Dr T will clear you for soft foods.  I think most of us made a beeline for Taco Bell for the pintos and cheese, that's still my favorite thing...lol  Hang in there Rosa, you can do it!!!! xo  Kim

I agree with the others.  Stay with your surgeon's protocol.  I had to be on liquids for 3 weeks and it was rough but definately do-able. Sheryl
