POST OP GAS

HI EVERYONE, I WILL BE HAVING SURGERY ON APRIL 23RD AND I HAVE A QUESTION REGARDING GAS!!! CAN YOU TAKE GAS-X OR ANYTHING AFTER SURGERY?  HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RELEASE IT??? I KNOW SOME OF YOU ARE LAUGHING, RELIVING YOUR FOND MEMORIES OF THIS THANKS, STEPHANIE

I didn't have a gas problem, some  people don't but yeah you can take Gas X.

Hi Steph! If you are talking about the gas the surgeon uses for lap surgery Gas-x, nor any anti-gas agent that works in your digestive system, will not help with that. It simply must work out of your system on it's own accord. Walking is the best "treatment" to help it pass.

THANKS FOR THE INFO...IS IT USUALLY DAYS BEFORE IT IS GONE OR LONGER?

Well, seems that I hear everything from 3/4 days to two weeks so just be prepared. My BFF at work had her gall bladder out recently, lap proceedure, on a Friday and finally got relief from the gas pains (mostly noticed in the left shoulder) the following Thursday after spending the evening before with a heating pad on her shoulder. It seems to be highly individual and related to your pain tolerance as well.

No gas here... but did retain 20 lbs of fluid... geesh... those butt tongs sure did come in handy... lols...

I had no issues with gas but like Diane said, you can take gasx.

As others have said, walking is the best remedy. Luckily I didn't have any that moved into the shoulder area, in fact mine was very mild. I'm guessing the walking helped. I think everyone is different though. Good Luck! Gloria

The little bit of gas I had worked it way out by walking, and I hit the floor walk. I really felt for the nurses, because I swear, every time I pass there desk, some would work its way out.    

But with each and every little bit of passing I felt so much better. I would say, 1/2 a day, the day after surgery.

Hi, I just had surgery on Wednesday and it took me until today (Saturday) to be relieved of gas pains.  I was miserable.  I kept walking and walking.  However, I do not remember feeling like that with my four C-Sections or my gall bladder removal.  And, the woman in the room near mine was totally fine.  Everyone is different.  Good luck!
