Is it unrealistic?

Is it unrealistic to think that I will be back at work within two weeks of surgery?  I have a desk job and I am worried about missing time from work.  I will only have one week of vacation and then disability after that.  Has anyone out there made it back to work that soon?

Had I not taken off for the numerous weeks that I CHOOSE to take off.  I was EASILY ready to go back after two weeks.  BUT since I had disability I took advantage of that... Ms Shell

like Shell, I took advantage of my disability time. My employer hired a temp to take my place.  I could have gone back after two weeks, but I would have been very tired.  (Remember, you won't be eating much to fuel yourself through the day.)

I took advantage of that time to learn to get along with my new pouch. I might have been to the beach a few times too. :)

Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired."

No doubt you will be tired, that's a given.  But when everyone fails to realize this is MAJOR surgery.  Just because you don't have a scar that runs from stem to stearn, it's still major.  Your body needs time to adjust and so do you.  You more than likely won't even be eating regular foods at 2 weeks.  If you can take maybe one or two weeks more, you will be better off.  Just remember everyone is different. Good luck

Thank you for the feedback.  I can take up to four weeks if I have too, I am just a single mom, and cant survive long on what disability will pay.  I am hoping for two weeks, but your right.  It is a major surgery.  Time will tell I suppose.

I wanted to go back after two weeks.  I felt the sooner I was back in my normal routine, the better.  Everyone is different, but going back that soon worked for me.  I understand the money issue though, don't forget that if it is state disability you are going to get, they do not pay you for the first seven days you are disabled.  So if you only plan on using one week of S.D.I., you won't get anything from them at all. Hugs!!

I went back after 5 days, and was totally fine.  I was tired, but just took a nap when I got home every day.

I went back to work after a week and a half. I did work shorter hours the first 3 days I was back. The following week was back to 40 hours. I have a desk job and made sure to get up and walk for at least 5 minutes once an hour and I would rest (nap) in my car at lunch time. The routine was good for me. I was ready. Please remember, as so many others have said, everyone is different. Good luck to you! Sue

My thoughts are try and do 1/2 days the first week back, or the first couple of days.  If you do a Monday through Friday...Come back on a Thursday and Friday for 1/2 days.  See how you handle those.  If you have a long drive...even that can be draining.  Brian
