PRE-OP QUESTION

HI EVERYONE,  MY FRIEND AND I BOTH HAVE OUR WLS NEXT WEEK IN SAN DIEGO THROUGH KAISER.  DR ZORN IS OUR SURGEON.  CAN ANYBODY GIVE SOME INFO ON THE PRE-OP FOR 5 HOURS THE DAY PRIOR TO THE SURGERY?  WHAT IS ENTAILED? ANY LABS OR TESTS DONE? ETC THANKS

First of all, congrats on getting your date!!!  I had Dr. Zorn as my surgeon. He is so wonderful and kind.   During the pre-op they will have you fill out some paperwork, watch a video, give you your spirometer (sp) for breathing, take your "before" pics, and weigh you.  I was not there for 5 hours.  I think mine started at 1 and I was finished by 3:30.  Hold on tight because you are getting ready for the ride of your life!!!!!!  I will be a year out on May 7th.  I have lost 119 lbs and feel absolutely AMAZING!!!!!  Words truly cannot express how much I enjoy my life now and how grateful I am to have had this surgery!!! THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE INFO.  MY SURGERY IS WED APRIL 23RD AND MY FRIEND WHO I MET THROUGH THE KAISER CLASSES IS TUES APRIL 22ND.  I WILL ALSO BE HAVING MY GALL BLADDER TAKEN OUT.  I HOPE THEY STILL LET ME GO HOME BY SATURDAY.  ANY OTHER ADVICE?  CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS!!! I KNOW YOU MUST BE FEELING GREAT!  KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Hi sweetie! Another Zornie here!!! Congratulations on your dates and for becoming friends in class. I made some great friends in my class. 4 of us became buddies who went out to eat after class each week. One of those 4 became one of my best friends and we ended up having surgery the same day! It is soo great to have someone close to travel this road with!  You will love Dr. Zorn, he is the best!!! His wife is usually his OR nurse, Becky, and she is the BOMB too!!!  As for the preop thing the day before, like Heather said, it isn't really 5 hours. The only thing I can add to what Heather said is that (I was forwarned about this and am glad I was) you need to know all of your medications and supplements you take, the mgs, and how often you take them. I was on quite a lot preop and if I hadn't of know ahead of time to have them all written down, I would have been lost!!!  Do you guys live in San Diego, or are you just here for surgery? If you live in SD, who was your positive choice teacher?  I'm very excited for both of you! Does your friend have a profile here on OH? I feel very fortunate to have developed this friendship with Stephanie and to have such an awesome parnter in this journey.   I am so ready for my surgery!!   Thanks much also to all of the information and support from OH.....
