Monterey roll call! (because I got an interview there! Yay!)
Thanks for the info! I haven't experienced the getting cold part of RNY yet, so that's good to know about! It sounds like you had a lot of fun there! It is amazing how many jobs I've seen that don't seem to offer competitive pay for even Modesto, much less Monterey! I'm glad that I'm not in a hurry, and I have the time to wait until I find something that will meet my needs. So exciting!
DeAnna
Hi DeAnna,
Good luck with the job interview. I live about 2 hours down the central coast from Monterey and I love it. The cost of living vs. the pay is very difficult sometimes. Good luck with that. The weather is beautiful although I have been cold almost all the time since surgery. The fog gets chilly. The last couple of days it has warmed up to 80. My poor husband thought he was having heat stroke! LOL kidding but he was really warm. I for one was finally NOT Cold. I love living in this area and will just deal with the cold.
I think Jaime lives in or near Monterey. I'm sure she'll post if she sees this.
Again, good luck to you
Sue

Thanks Sue!
You guys are bringing up a good point about the fog. I've never minded fog too much, (mainly because I have vitiligo and have to lather myself up in sunscreen to be in direct sunlight for any length of time!) but I do remember a couple of years ago when Modesto had fog for like a month straight; we hadn't seen the sun in ages, and we were all going a little stir crazy! Is it like that; do you go for weeks at a time without seeing the sun?
DeAnna
Carmel and Pacific Grove can get pretty socked in with the fog during the summer----but drive to monterey and carmel valley and it's sunny! I do live in the Valley---it's about 85++ today---- generally it can be 20 degrees cooler in carmel. Anyway--- I have a dog-- I take her to the community park out here, or the river. I heard they opened a dog park in monterey by el estero--but I haven't checked it out yet. I had some luck having a pet---in houses rather than apts.--- with a hefty deposit, and dog references. EVEN when the ad said no pets--always worth a call.
Although I have wanted the surgery for over 6 years--- I have been working towards it quite seriously only the last 6 months--- all the pre-tests and lectures---and that is how I found out about the CHOMP support group, and this website.
I appreciate any and all advice as I go thru this process----- next steps coming up are my consult with the surgeon ( Vierra) who may have to refer me elsewhere because of insurance---and the nut. and pysch. evaluations----- At least I think that's all the steps before approval and date set.
Thank you for the support---and hope to meet you at the support group when you move over here!
Thank you so much for all the info-I will definitely look into Carmel Valley, it's actually pretty close to where I'm applying-thanks for the tip!
I hope all of your remaining steps toward the surgery go very quickly! I know how the waiting can be grueling! Just hang in there and keep doing everything they tell you to do; it is SOOO worth it!
DeAnna
Deanna,
I hope you BOMB your interview and Monterey SUCKS!!!
Ok, not really, I'm just selfishly trying to keep you here. First off, truly, GREAT luck on your interview. And second, I LOVE MONTEREY. It's so beautiful and I absolutely love Cannery Row and the "touristy" part of it all. I will miss you terribly, but I know you will do great!!!
I love you muchos kiddo!
By the way, thanks for the bathing suits. The pink one is very bright and I thought Jayson was going to die of laughter, but I like the star one a lot.
Good luck again and you have to tell us how it goes!!!
April
You are too funny April! You know that I will still be on this board! And of course my sister lives in Riverbank, so I will probably be up for the weekend frequently! If you guys have any potlucks or other get-togethers, I will be there! And you know I will be having a get-together when I get settled, and I expect my Central Valley buddies to make the drive over!
That's right, where's my pic of you in the pink bathing suit?! LOL! I can't remember where I actually wore the pink one; maybe on a cruise? I'm sure I had drunk many margaritas before I was seen in public in that one! But you're right, the star one is cute, and it has good thigh coverage! Have fun swimming!
DeAnna
oh also, the weather here is all right. it gets foggy a lot and it will take time to adjust but like today it's in the 80's. the variety in weather is crazy. i work at CHOMP. Is that where you are interviewing? You will LOVE it.
I have lived here all my life- 31 years except for a 3 year period when i was dumb and left to live with my ex boyfriend. i came back though and wouldn't live anywhere else.
Jaime C.
Hey Jaime! I knew I'd seen someone on here that lived in the Monterey area, but I couldn't remember who! It was you! Yay!
The interview is with the hospital, coordinating the hospice transportation program. I wouldn't actually work at the hospital, though, but rather at the Ryan Ranch campus. The other lead I have is working at the county, working as a military rep (helping vets get all the services they're entitled to). They are supposed to be sending me a testing date soon.
Hey, I just looked up CHOMP to see what that was, and it's the hospital! LOL! I never made that connection, that it's an acronym for "Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula"! That's hysterical! What do you do at the hospital? Do you like it? Okay, if I get this job, I can't wait to tell people I'm going to work at a place called "CHOMP!"
Hey, do you know of any apartment complexes that accept pets? I've been scouring the interent, and all I can find are places in Salinas and one place in Marina.
